The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is offering a dynamic internship opportunity for a motivated university student interested in international affairs, communications, and policy research. Based in Paris, this role will provide practical experience at the intersection of European foreign policy, event coordination, public communications, and strategic research.
This six-month, full-time internship is ideal for students who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a pan-European think-tank environment and are passionate about European climate action, competitiveness, and decarbonization.

The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is a leading international think-tank dedicated to independent research and informed debate on European foreign and security policy. Established in 2007, ECFR brings together high-level policymakers, academics, and activists to explore Europe’s strategic role in the world. With offices in seven European capitals and a network of over 90 staff from more than 25 nationalities, ECFR works to build coalitions for change and foster open policy dialogue across the EU.
Purpose of the Internship
The internship serves two core purposes:
- Support the Paris Office’s event planning, administration, and public communication, particularly through social media.
- Assist a research project focused on the geopolitical and policy challenges related to decarbonization, climate action, and competitiveness in France and across Europe.
Main Responsibilities
1. Event and Advocacy Support
- Assist with the logistical and organizational aspects of ECFR Paris events.
- Manage RSVP lists, booking travel and accommodations, and event communications.
- Support outreach activities in coordination with the Advocacy and Communications teams.
2. Social Media and CRM Management
- Contribute to ECFR Paris’s social media content and scheduling.
- Help maintain ECFR’s CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system.
- Support initiatives aimed at network engagement and digital outreach.
3. Research Project Assistance
- Conduct background research and draft memos or briefings on topics related to climate policy, European competitiveness, and French energy transition.
- Analyze public policy debates within France and the EU regarding decarbonization efforts.
- Assist with the drafting of short publications or research outputs.
4. Administrative and Translation Support
- Provide general support to the Paris coordination team, including supply orders and event logistics.
- Assist with basic translation tasks (English-French/French-English) as needed.
- Contribute to the smooth operation of office activities and provide flexible support for urgent needs.
5. Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other ECFR departments, including the wider Communications and Advocacy teams.
- Support team objectives through task management, meeting support, and day-to-day operations.
Candidate Profile
Education and Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, or a related field.
- A Convention de stage from a French academic institution is required.
- Available full-time from September 2025 to February 2026.
- Must be eligible to work in France.
Skills and Competencies
- Academic background with a strong focus on international relations, EU policy, or economic governance.
- Full professional proficiency in both English and French.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities in multicultural environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), CRM systems, and basic CMS tools (e.g., WordPress) is an asset.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of handling multiple tasks efficiently.
