About the Role
UMI Fund is hiring a Data Officer to ensure the accuracy, security, and functionality of its data systems. This position is vital to supporting impactful climate justice grantmaking through strong data practices and secure information management.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Integrity
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate data related to grants, grantees, events, and CRM systems.
- Identify and resolve data discrepancies and automation issues.
- Reconcile data across systems (e.g., CRM, grant management systems).
- Support data audits, system documentation, and usage oversight.
Security & Compliance
- Implement elements of UMI Fund’s data security policy, including 1:1 staff training.
- Enforce secure sharing, document retention, and data deletion protocols.
- Ensure information security compliance to protect vulnerable partners.
Operational Support
- Procure and manage equipment (laptops, phones) and software subscriptions globally.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of hardware and software licenses.
- Assist staff with onboarding and basic IT troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years in data entry, CRM management, or similar (e.g., Airtable, Salesforce).
- Technical: Proficient in Google Sheets and Excel. Familiar with AI tools and interested in exploring automation and AI-powered workflows.
- Security Awareness: Understanding of cybersecurity best practices (VPN, 2FA, secure file handling).
- Operations: Comfortable with remote team logistics and basic IT support.
- Values: Strong alignment with climate justice and equity; discretion with sensitive information.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working remotely across multiple time zones using Slack, Notion, Zoom, etc.
- Familiarity with automation tools (Zapier, Airtable scripting).
- Prior work in a nonprofit or climate-related context.

Working Environment
UMI Fund offers flexible working hours but may require occasional collaboration outside standard local hours due to its globally distributed team. Regular hours are 9 AM to 5 PM local time, 40 hours/week. Early or late meetings must be offset with rest time within two days.
