About the Journal

The African Solutions Journal (AfSol) is a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to advancing original, policy-relevant, and intellectually rigorous scholarship on African peace and security. The journal aims to center African-led innovations, governance responses, and regional cooperation across a range of complex challenges.

Volume 6, Issue 2 will focus on critical reflections and context-specific responses to peace and security dynamics in Africa, with a particular emphasis on emerging challenges and African-led solutions.

Submission Process

Scholars are invited to submit proposals for individual or co-authored articles. Submissions should explore topics such as:

  • Regional peacebuilding mechanisms
  • Security sector reform
  • African Union and RECs’ interventions
  • Peace operations and local ownership
  • Gender, conflict transformation, and inclusive governance
  • The role of civil society and traditional authorities in peace processes

Initial Submission Requirements (Due: 10 August 2025)

Each proposal should include:

  1. Proposed Title
  2. Abstract (200 words)
  3. Introduction (600 words)
    • Core argument(s)
    • Research gaps addressed
    • Literature overview
    • Research design and methodology
    • Detailed paper outline
  4. Biography of the author(s) (short, relevant academic profile)

Submissions will be selected based on merit, thematic relevance, and scholarly contribution. Group submissions are welcome, but individual papers are evaluated independently.

Full Article Requirements

  • Word Count: 6,000–8,000 words (including references, tables, charts)
  • Formatting:
    • Font: Times New Roman, size 12
    • Line spacing: 1.5
    • Header spacing: 2.0 before/after
    • Header style: Font size 14, Bold
  • Citation Style: APA 7th Edition
  • Original Work Only: A similarity index above 10% will be considered plagiarism and grounds for automatic rejection.

Article Structure

All accepted articles should follow this framework:

  • Introduction of the issue and scope, supported by theoretical analysis and literature
  • Main discussion with clearly structured arguments
  • Case studies or examples of African-led responses or innovations
  • Policy implications and recommendations
  • Clear contributions to theory, practice, and regional discourse
  • Full list of references in APA format
