The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is currently seeking to recruit a Press/Media Communication Officer within the Directorate for Communication, specifically in Unit D.1: Press Office and Media Relations. The position, based in Brussels, is open to candidates who have successfully passed the EPSO CAST FGIV selection procedure.

This opportunity is ideally suited to communication professionals with a background in media relations and political communication, who are eager to enhance the visibility of the European Union and its over one million locally and regionally elected politicians.

Role Overview

As a Press/Media Communication Officer, the incumbent will contribute directly to the Committee’s outreach efforts by enhancing public and media engagement on the work and relevance of the CoR and its members. This includes planning and implementing communication strategies to raise awareness of the Committee’s positions and activities within the EU’s political landscape and beyond.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of 11 press officers, reporting to the Head of Sector. The role requires a balance of strategic communication expertise, operational efficiency, and strong interpersonal skills.

Main Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key contact for media relations, building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets across Europe.
  • Organise and manage press conferences, interviews, media briefings, and other press events.
  • Support CoR members, including politicians, in their media engagements by preparing speaking notes, briefings, and messaging strategies.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare both quantitative and qualitative assessments of press impact, ensuring accurate performance reporting.
  • Draft press releases, media statements, articles, and content for digital platforms that communicate CoR positions effectively and professionally.
  • Collaborate with other units within the Directorate for Communication to ensure message alignment across all channels.
  • Explore and experiment with new communication outlets and digital tools, including secure artificial intelligence applications, to enhance visibility and effectiveness.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy, confidentiality, and discretion in dealing with sensitive political and institutional information.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must have successfully passed the EPSO CAST FGIV selection procedure and meet the general eligibility criteria outlined in Article 82(3) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union.

Professional Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience in press and media relations, including briefing politicians, securing media coverage across TV, radio, print, and online platforms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences and media formats.
  • Thorough knowledge of at least one official EU language, with a satisfactory knowledge of a second. A high level of English is required for functional purposes. Proficiency in an additional language not yet present in the sector (e.g. Central or Eastern European languages) is considered an asset.
  • Strong proficiency in digital tools and platforms such as Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and emerging AI-based communication tools within a secure digital environment.
  • Ability to deliver quality communication outputs under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and creativity.
  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with elected officials, their support staff, policy advisors, and logistics teams.
