Research Associate Opportunity: Evidence Synthesis Group

The Evidence Synthesis Group invites applications for the position of Research Associate, a flexible and highly professional role suitable for individuals seeking to engage in impactful, evidence-based research across multiple social and public health domains. About the Role

The selected Research Associate will contribute to a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of researchers engaged in a variety of applied research projects. The position requires both initiative and reliability, with responsibilities spanning across research design, data collection, literature synthesis, and scholarly writing.

Working under the guidance of senior researchers, the Research Associate will support the execution of high-quality studies in areas aligned with the organisation’s mission of generating evidence that matters. The position is suited to candidates capable of working independently while maintaining a strong team-oriented ethos.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Associate will support research teams in the following core areas:

  • Study Design and Methodology: Assist in the conceptualisation and design of research studies. This includes drafting methodological frameworks, developing protocols, and contributing to ethics submissions where applicable.
  • Instrument Development: Design and pilot test research instruments such as surveys, interview guides, and focus group schedules. Ensure tools are valid, reliable, and appropriate for the study context.
  • Data Collection and Literature Reviews: Undertake comprehensive literature reviews and evidence syntheses to inform project objectives. Support qualitative and quantitative data collection, including interviews and survey administration.
  • Research Communication: Contribute to drafting academic papers, technical reports, and policy briefs. Ensure all outputs adhere to rigorous standards of academic and professional writing.

Candidate Profile

This role is well-suited to early-career professionals and postgraduate scholars seeking meaningful research experience with practical relevance. Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Academic Background: A degree (Honours level or higher) in public health, social sciences, development studies, or a related discipline is required. A postgraduate qualification (Master’s or currently enrolled in a postgraduate programme) will be considered an advantage.
  • Research Methodology Competence: A sound understanding of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, with evidence of prior experience in designing or conducting research.
  • Writing Proficiency: Excellent academic writing and communication skills. The ability to synthesise findings clearly and persuasively for diverse audiences is essential.
  • Professionalism and Independence: Ability to work independently, manage deadlines effectively, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. Candidates should be self-driven, responsive, and adaptable in a virtual work environment.
  • Commitment to Impact: A clear interest in contributing to research that informs social change, policy development, and evidence-based decision-making.
