About the Opportunity
The Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG) at the University of Canterbury is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in uncertainty modelling for energy transitions. This project is run in close collaboration with Open Energy Transition, offering the opportunity to bridge academic research and real-world application in the open-access energy modelling ecosystem.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and technically skilled individual with:
- A degree in engineering, mathematics, operations research, economics, or a related field with a strong quantitative component.
- Demonstrated experience with programming, preferably in Python. Experience with tools such as pandas, Snakemake, or PyPSA is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in writing. English proficiency at C1 level or above is required.
- A strong intrinsic motivation to improve open-source energy modelling tools for sustainable planning.
- A commitment to academic excellence, including the intention to publish 3–6 peer-reviewed journal papers during the PhD.
