WISER Africa Co-Production Fellowship 2025: Advancing Climate Resilience Across Africa

The Weather and Climate Information Services (WISER) Africa Co-Production Fellowship is now accepting applications from early-career researchers and professionals based in East, West, or Southern Africa. This initiative, funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Africa Regional Climate and Nature (ARCAN) programme, is designed to strengthen the delivery of climate and weather services by fostering regional expertise in co-production.
The fellowship provides a platform for talented individuals who are passionate about bridging the gap between science and community-led solutions. With a focus on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability, the fellowship aims to empower the next generation of climate leaders.
Fellowship Overview
Three fellowships will be awarded—one each in East Africa, West Africa, and Southern Africa. Each fellow will act as a co-production champion, collaborating with local and regional organisations to support the goals of the WISER programme. The fellows will work to advance co-production practices that integrate scientific knowledge with community needs and priorities.
Fellows will be embedded within existing institutions or hosted by designated regional centres. They will take a leading role in promoting stakeholder-driven approaches to climate services, ensuring that research outputs translate into practical and locally relevant actions.
Fellowship Objectives
The WISER Co-Production Fellowship is structured around four core objectives:
- Strengthen Co-Production Expertise
Fellows will provide dedicated co-production support in their regions, working closely with Regional Climate Centres or National Meteorological and Hydrological Services. - Engage Stakeholders in Climate Planning
Through stakeholder engagement and collaboration, fellows will co-design and prioritise regional climate-related initiatives. These activities will help inform future climate-focused development funding. - Advance Applied Research
Fellows are expected to conduct research in relevant thematic areas such as stakeholder engagement, indigenous knowledge systems, communication strategies, and the co-development of climate services. - Contribute to Cross-Regional Learning
By participating in WISER-wide knowledge exchange activities, fellows will contribute to a broader understanding of effective co-production practices across Africa. They will also benefit from training and peer learning with both regional and international experts.
