Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is expanding its footprint in the Horn of Africa and the climate–peace nexus. We invite accomplished professionals to apply for three key roles based in our Addis Ababa and Nairobi offices. 1. Senior Programme Officer – Transitional Justice & Reconciliation (TJ & R)

Location: LPI Office, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Deadline: July 13, 2025

Role Summary

This leadership position will guide LPI’s efforts to promote transitional justice and reconciliation across conflict-affected communities. The Senior Programme Officer will oversee programme design, implementation, and strategic partnerships with local, national, and regional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead policy development, programming, and project oversight in transitional justice and reconciliation
  • Coordinate with governments, civil society, and regional bodies (e.g., IGAD, AU)
  • Manage programme cycles—from design to evaluation
  • Provide technical leadership and support to programme staff
  • Represent LPI in regional forums and donor settings
  • Monitor and report on progress and impact indicators

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Peace & Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Law, or related field
  • 6–8+ years managing peacebuilding or TJ programmes, ideally in Eastern Africa
  • Proven ability to navigate multi-stakeholder environments
  • Hands-on experience in civil society capacity support and policy advocacy
  • Excellent communication, project management, and intercultural skills
  • Legal eligibility to work in Ethiopia

2. Senior Programme Officer – Climate Peace & Security

Location: LPI Office, Nairobi, Kenya or Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Deadline: July 13, 2025

Role Summary

This position focuses on the intersections between climate change, environmental stress, and peacebuilding. You will lead strategy, project design, and partnerships to address climate-related conflict risks across East Africa and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement climate–peace initiatives
  • Build partnerships with environmental, security, and development actors
  • Support policy engagement at national and regional levels
  • Lead monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive learning processes
  • Advocate for climate-security integration in peace agendas
  • Oversee project budgets and donor reporting

Requirements

  • Degree in International Relations, Climate Policy, Environmental Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, or related discipline
  • 6–8+ years in climate security, environmental peacebuilding, or related fields
  • Experience in East African contexts and regional policy platforms
  • Expertise in programme strategy, research, and stakeholder collaboration
  • Valid work authorization for Kenya or Ethiopia, depending on location

3. Programme Assistant – Horn of Africa Regional Programme

Location: LPI Office, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Deadline: July 13, 2025

Role Summary

Join the Horn of Africa Regional Programme (HARP) as a Programme Assistant, supporting the coordination of civil society engagement, policy dialogues, research, and administrative logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, logistics, coordination, and communication
  • Support programme cycle management and grant implementation
  • Maintain databases, track deliverables, and prepare analytical summaries
  • Facilitate stakeholder communications and event coordination
  • Assist with monitoring & evaluation tools, reporting, and data management

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Public Policy, or related field
  • 2–5 years of professional experience, preferably in peacebuilding, policy research, or programme coordination
  • Experience in regional policy or civil society programming in the Horn of Africa
  • Excellent administrative, digital literacy, and communication skills
  • Legal eligibility to work in Ethiopia
