Programme Overview

Beyond Borders Scotland, in partnership with Edinburgh Law School, invites applications for the October 2025 cohort of the Women in Conflict (WiC) 1325 Fellowship Programme. Grounded in the principles of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the programme recognises and strengthens women’s roles in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, mediation, post-conflict reconstruction, and security.

The Fellowship brings together women from conflict-affected regions to participate in a residential, interdisciplinary programme focused on inclusive peace processes and sustainable conflict transformation. The initiative is funded by the Scottish Government and designed to foster dialogue, peer learning, and long-term collaboration through an evolving Alumnae Community of Practice.

Programme Objectives

The Fellowship seeks to:

  • Facilitate cross-border knowledge exchange and peer-to-peer learning on the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda.
  • Support meaningful participation of women in peace processes by sharing tools and strategies for advocacy and leadership.
  • Build a sustainable network of women leaders committed to transformative peacebuilding.
  • Equip participants with practical tools in mediation, negotiation, transitional justice, and arts-based reconciliation, while promoting self-care and resilience.

Thematic Focus Areas

Participants will engage in workshops, discussions, and field-based learning focused on the following core areas:

  • Women, Peace and Security (WPS): Understanding UNSCR 1325, critiques of implementation, and opportunities for participation.
  • Mediation and Negotiation: Gender-sensitive mediation principles, inclusive dialogue, and skill-building simulations.
  • Transitional Justice: Gendered approaches to justice and reconciliation in post-conflict contexts.
  • Gender, Conflict, and Climate: Intersections of environmental justice, gender inequality, and psychosocial impacts.
  • Arts and Peacebuilding: Use of creative arts in community healing and reconciliation.
  • Self-care and Resilience: Techniques to maintain mental health and well-being for women working in high-conflict environments.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A professional or personal interest or experience in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, or women’s rights.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort engaging in English-language workshops and collaborative activities.
