Job Summary
SHOFCO is recruiting passionate and community-focused individuals to serve as Scholarship Coordinators in select counties across Kenya. The role is central to ensuring that Kenya’s most vulnerable girls receive the educational support they need to enrol, stay in school, and thrive.
As a Scholarship Coordinator, you will serve as the key local link between SHOFCO, scholarship recipients, schools, families, and community stakeholders. This grassroots-based position supports scholar identification, onboarding, mentorship, monitoring, and overall well-being, while championing the value of education for girls and vulnerable youth.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with SHOFCO Urban Network (SUN) committees and school leaders to support scholarship administration.
- Build trust-based relationships with students, families, local authorities, and community organisations.
- Deliver school holiday mentorship sessions and engage parents in their child’s educational journey.
- Support recruitment of vulnerable girls, including teen mothers, in partnership with local entities.
Scholar Support & Case Management
- Monitor scholar welfare, flagging drop-out risks or mental health needs.
- Conduct home visits, mentor students, and maintain direct contact with guardians.
- Liaise with the SHOFCO Gender Department on sensitive cases and psychosocial needs.
Data Collection & Program Monitoring
- Maintain up-to-date records in the Scholarship Database.
- Collect relevant documents and data from schools and homes to support program accountability.
- Assist in recruitment tracking, data audits, and internal evaluations.
Contribute to Program Development
- Offer real-time feedback on program implementation and recommend improvements.
- Participate in the co-design of mentorship and community programming.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Education & Experience
- Minimum of a Diploma in education, counselling, community development, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- At least 2 years of experience in youth-focused or community-based educational programs.
- Certification in counselling is required.
Core Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and mentorship skills.
- Knowledge of psycho-social support practices.
- Ability to collect, manage, and analyze data effectively.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with community organizing and stakeholder coordination.
