Overview
La Trobe University is currently hiring a Research Officer to join the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS), a renowned interdisciplinary research hub situated within the School of Psychology and Public Health. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally significant research in LGBTIQA+ health and wellbeing, including participation in flagship studies such as Private Lives, Australia’s largest national survey of LGBTIQA+ adults.
ARCSHS is committed to advancing inclusive and evidence-based knowledge relating to sexuality, gender, relationships, and broader public health issues. The Centre has a strong focus on translating academic research into practice, supporting inclusive healthcare delivery and policy.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute across multiple concurrent research projects. Two of the core initiatives include:
- Private Lives Survey: A landmark, longitudinal research project examining the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ adults across Australia.
- LGBTIQ+ Inclusive Aged Care Project: A study supported by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), focusing on best practices and inclusive service delivery within residential aged care settings.
Tasks will include:
- Conducting quantitative data analysis and data management
- Supporting project management functions such as research coordination, reporting, and stakeholder communication
- Contributing to the preparation of publications, conference presentations, and policy-relevant outputs
- Assisting with ethics applications, literature reviews, and evidence synthesis
Key Selection Criteria
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- PhD or equivalent research experience in public health, psychology, sociology, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in health-related or population-level research, preferably involving LGBTIQA+ communities
- Proficiency in quantitative data analysis and related statistical software
- Proven ability to work independently or with limited supervision
- Strong record of contributing to academic publications or technical reports
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in community-based research
- Familiarity with the Australian aged care or health systems
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
