Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship 2025: Empowering the Next Generation of Global South Climate Leaders

The Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship is a distinguished five-month hybrid program designed to support and connect the next generation of clean energy and climate change leaders from emerging and developing countries. Administered by Yale University’s International Leadership Center, this initiative nurtures young professionals from across the Global South who are actively shaping the future of climate and energy policy, innovation, and advocacy in their regions.

Each year, 16 carefully selected fellows join a transformative journey of learning, networking, and leadership development that combines academic rigor, professional exposure, and peer-to-peer engagement. The program is deeply rooted in Yale’s commitment to global equity, climate action, and leadership development.

Fellowship Overview

The Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship is structured as a three-part, five-month program. It consists of the following components:

  1. Two Week-Long In-Person Residencies:
    • Session 1 at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut: Fellows begin the program with an immersive week on Yale’s campus, engaging with leading scholars, energy experts, and policy practitioners.
    • Session 2 in Paris, France: The program concludes with a second in-person session in Paris, where fellows participate in high-level discussions and collaborative workshops in one of Europe’s most prominent hubs for global climate diplomacy.
  2. Virtual Learning Journeys:
    • Between the two in-person sessions, fellows participate in bi-monthly online sessions known as “Learning Journeys.” These virtual engagements allow fellows to delve deeper into pressing climate and energy topics while continuing to interact with global experts and one another.
