UNICEF Seeks Consultant for Community Health Communications and Advocacy – Remote Opportunity

UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, is inviting applications for the position of Community Health Communications and Advocacy Consultant. This consultancy will be hosted by the Programme Group – Health Section, under the Child and Community Health Unit, with duty station at UNICEF Headquarters, New York. However, the position is fully remote. The assignment is set to begin on 1 July 2025 and conclude on 30 June 2026.

Purpose of the Assignment

The consultant will support UNICEF’s strategic advocacy and communications related to community health and the Community Health Delivery Partnership (CHDP). This role will enhance visibility and coordination between global and regional actors, including governments, donors, and UNICEF’s country offices, while promoting effective delivery of health and nutrition services at the community level.

This consultancy directly contributes to advancing UNICEF’s renewed vision for community health by promoting country needs, showcasing impact, and aligning global partners behind national priorities for women and children’s health.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will carry out a range of tasks that fall under several major areas:

1. Strategic Communication and Content Development

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date advocacy messages and digital communication products tailored for multiple audiences.
  • Generate fact sheets, briefing notes, and media content supporting CHDP’s outreach goals.
  • Create bi-monthly digital content for social media and internal platforms.

2. Event and Partner Engagement

  • Organize and coordinate communications for high-level events such as the CHDP High-Level Partners Meeting and UNGA side events.
  • Prepare communication packages, including concept notes, partner updates, and event agendas.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure alignment in messaging and outreach efforts.

3. Coordination of Technical Working Groups

  • Lead efforts of the CHDP Technical Working Group on Communications and Advocacy.
  • Facilitate regular meetings, document proceedings, and ensure follow-through on action points.
  • Update and manage shared advocacy tools, mailing lists, and digital libraries.

4. Development of Key Deliverables

  • Produce at least 10 advocacy tools for national-level partners.
  • Deliver 24 social media content packages, 12 partner communications, and 12 leadership updates.
  • Finalize five regional profiles based on survey results from the UNICEF–Africa CDC Landscape Survey.
  • Support preparation of presentations, visual assets, and reports for ongoing and new funding programs.

5. Internal Communications and Reporting

  • Collaborate on monthly updates to UNICEF’s Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director.
  • Contribute content to UNICEF’s internal newsletters and publish five quarterly CHDP newsletters.
  • Maintain a real-time calendar of events and assist in annual work planning.

Candidate Profile

Education: An advanced university degree in Public Health, Communications, Journalism, Global Development, or a related discipline.

Experience and Skills:

  • At least 6 years of professional experience in health communications, stakeholder engagement, or advocacy.
  • Proven ability to develop strategic communication materials for global health programs.
  • Prior experience working with ministries of health, multilateral institutions, and donors.
  • Skilled in managing communications for high-level events and producing content for digital and traditional media.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.

If travel becomes necessary, UNICEF will cover associated costs. Selected candidates must have active health insurance and comply with visa requirements, particularly if residing in the U.S. under a non-G4 visa.
