LAW is an independent, non-profit network of legal professionals committed to ensuring that individuals affected by human rights violations and international crimes receive survivor-centred, gender-competent, and trauma-informed support to access justice. With operations in 18 countries, LAW’s teams are embedded in conflict-affected and fragile environments, working closely with survivors and local communities to enable meaningful participation in justice and advocacy processes.
LAW combines national and international legal expertise to pursue innovative accountability strategies, including strategic litigation at national, regional, and international levels. LAW also collaborates with justice institutions to strengthen their capacity and supports legislative reform to promote accountability and the rule of law. The organisation’s mission is rooted in the belief that sustainable peace requires justice and that impunity must not be a barrier to it.
The Role
The Communications Coordinator will play a pivotal role in driving LAW’s communications strategy. This Geneva-based position offers a unique intersection of advocacy, legal communications, and human rights storytelling. The role involves curating digital campaigns, managing media engagement, developing LAW’s social media presence, and creating content that amplifies the voices of survivors and showcases LAW’s impact across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement a communications strategy that aligns with LAW’s mission and advocacy goals.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with journalists, media outlets, and strategic partners.
- Draft press releases, coordinate interviews, and organise press conferences.
- Collaborate with regional communication staff to ensure cohesive messaging across programmes.
- Lead content development for annual and thematic reports.
- Coordinate with external consultants (graphic designers, videographers) on communications products.
Social Media Strategy
- Design and execute a social media strategy to increase engagement and reach across Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Expand LAW’s digital footprint on Instagram, creating visually engaging content such as infographics, videos, and survivor stories.
- Manage LAW’s main Twitter account and support the Executive Director’s digital presence.
Digital Engagement
- Oversee LAW’s website, ensuring content remains current, engaging, and accessible.
- Manage digital publications, including a quarterly newsletter and board updates.
- Innovate with digital tools to elevate LAW’s brand and storytelling capabilities.
- Track and analyse media coverage and digital engagement trends to inform strategy.
Events & Campaigns
- Collaborate with programme and advocacy teams on the planning and promotion of high-profile events and campaign launches.
- Support fundraising and advocacy efforts through the development of compelling narratives and communication materials.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, media, or a related field.
- At least four years of professional experience in communications, digital media, or social media strategy.
- Demonstrated experience in journalism is a strong asset.
- A strong portfolio showcasing effective and engaging content across digital platforms.
- Proficiency in tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and basic video editing.
- Experience in photography and use of email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp).
- Excellent written and spoken English. French is highly desirable.
- A clear understanding of legal or human rights issues, particularly in conflict or post-conflict contexts.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse, multicultural teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong technical literacy.
Terms of Employment
- Location: Geneva, Switzerland
- Duration: Full-time, permanent
- Salary Range: CHF 81,732 – CHF 90,804 annually (based on experience), plus benefits
