Internship Overview

The Free the Slaves Research Internship offers a unique opportunity to develop skills and knowledge essential for future leaders in the global anti-slavery movement. This part-time, remote internship provides hands-on experience in research related to anti-slavery programming, with direct mentorship from senior staff. Interns will gain insight into the operations of an international human rights organization and contribute to meaningful research projects. Although unpaid, the internship is designed to complement academic studies, and students are encouraged to seek academic credit where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the analysis of interview data from a research project based in Antigua and Barbuda, utilizing specialized software provided by FTS.
  • Review and analyze secondary data sources, identifying critical findings and actionable recommendations.
  • Support research activities across various FTS regional offices as needed, contributing to a broad range of projects.
  • Participate actively in weekly meetings with the Senior Program Manager for Research to discuss progress and insights.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research outcomes by assisting with workshops, webinars, and presentations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Be a recent university graduate or a current graduate student in fields such as law, public policy, international relations, international development, human rights, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate fluency in English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in French or Spanish is an asset.
  • Have prior experience or familiarity with research methodologies, especially in the collection, analysis, and synthesis of primary and secondary data.
  • Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills, with an ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Be highly organized, self-motivated, and reliable, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual environment.
  • Show cultural sensitivity and professional engagement with international teams.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in human rights and social justice issues, preferably with some history of involvement in related movements.
