Role Overview

The Communications Officer will be central to implementing and monitoring AECF’s communications strategy, focusing on both internal and external messaging. The officer will play a vital role in translating complex, technical, and impact-driven work into compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences—ranging from local communities to global stakeholders.

This hands-on role requires a proactive and dynamic communicator who can identify storytelling opportunities from the organization’s rich portfolio and work closely with teams across Strategy & Partnerships, Program Management, and Impact & Learning. The Communications Officer will manage digital platforms, support media relations, and coordinate content creation to amplify AECF’s influence and thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute communications strategies aligned with AECF’s program objectives.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging, branding, tone, and visual identity across all communication channels.
  • Create and distribute diverse content such as blogs, videos, newsletters, reports, and social media posts.
  • Manage internal communications and provide support for events, campaigns, and program launches.
  • Oversee digital platforms, enhancing engagement through social media and website content management.
  • Support media relations, maintain a visual asset library, and coordinate with external communication vendors.
  • Package thought leadership and impact insights for different audiences.
  • Advise on reputational matters and provide strategic communications guidance.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Social Sciences, Knowledge Management, or related fields.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., Public Relations Society) is preferred.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or media, preferably within development, donor-funded, or impact-focused organizations.
  • Proven success managing multi-channel communications campaigns and translating technical content into accessible narratives.
  • Hands-on experience managing digital platforms (social media, CMS) and driving user engagement.
  • Familiarity working with international partners and across diverse cultural contexts.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to deliver quality content under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, able to build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills to craft and communicate key messages clearly.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools, graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), and analytics platforms is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines reliably.
