About the Role
Saferworld is seeking a skilled and motivated Gender and Peacebuilding Policy Adviser to cover a maternity leave within its Gender Team, which operates under the broader Policy and Advocacy Team. This temporary, full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Saferworld’s gender, peace, and security (GPS) agenda and gender equality strategy on a global scale.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in linking organisational programmes, research, communications, and advocacy efforts around gender, peace, and security. They will support the design and implementation of strategies that influence positive change and strengthen gender equality in peacebuilding efforts at multiple levels—from local communities to international policy spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Advocacy Development:
Working closely with the Senior Gender Adviser and the Global Policy and Advocacy Team, lead the development of effective GPS advocacy strategies and tools. These strategies should support advocacy efforts that extend beyond Saferworld’s direct programming, influencing broader policy and practice. - Research and Analysis Support:
Provide expert advice on producing, disseminating, and applying research and analysis within a gender-transformative framework. Support programme and policy teams to ensure research findings are effectively integrated into their work to advance gender equality and peacebuilding outcomes. - Advocacy and Communications:
Support gender-focused advocacy and communications at sub-national, national, regional, and international levels. Facilitate the flow of learning and analysis between local/national programmes and international GPS research and advocacy priorities, ensuring these efforts reinforce each other. - Organisational Leadership on GPS:
Lead the development of an organisational vision and process to strengthen coordination across Saferworld’s advocates working on gender, peace, and security. This includes fostering collective impact and supporting knowledge sharing and learning on GPS themes across the organisation. - Capacity Strengthening:
Provide guidance and capacity-building support to country teams, gender coordinators, advisors, and focal points. Organise and coordinate Gender Reference Group meetings, brown bag sessions, and other internal forums to promote information exchange and collaboration. - Inclusive and Collaborative Working:
Demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive, culturally sensitive ways of working. Support Saferworld’s diverse teams and partners globally in integrating gender equality and GPS considerations into their peacebuilding efforts.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in gender, peacebuilding, and security, with demonstrated experience in advocacy, policy development, and capacity strengthening. They will have excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to operate effectively across different cultural contexts.
Key qualities and experience include:
- Proven expertise in gender and peacebuilding policy, research, and advocacy, ideally within an international development or humanitarian context.
- Ability to develop strategic advocacy tools and lead initiatives that influence policy and practice at multiple levels.
- Strong skills in supporting and facilitating knowledge exchange, capacity development, and collaborative working.
- Experience working in multicultural environments and with diverse stakeholders, including grassroots organisations, government agencies, and international bodies.
- Commitment to gender equality, social justice, and inclusive peacebuilding.
- Flexibility to work remotely and willingness to travel occasionally if required.
