The Opportunity
Saferworld is seeking a Finance Coordinator to join our Conflict Advisory Unit (CAU), contributing to the effective financial management of our Women, Peace & Security (WPS) Helpdesk. This is a dynamic and critical role within an impactful international organisation committed to conflict prevention and gender-responsive peacebuilding.
The WPS Helpdesk is a UK government-funded advisory service that provides on-demand, high-quality technical assistance to improve the gender responsiveness of security and conflict initiatives. The service plays a central role in advancing the UK’s Women, Peace and Security National Action Plan. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to shaping gender-sensitive programming across international development and peacebuilding efforts.
About the Role
The Finance Coordinator will report to the Project Manager – WPS and work closely with both the CAU team and Saferworld’s central Finance Team. The role involves ensuring accurate and timely financial management of the WPS Helpdesk, which requires flexibility, strong coordination skills, and a firm understanding of donor compliance.
This position will be key to:
- Managing budgets and financial forecasts in an agile and responsive manner due to the Helpdesk’s on-demand nature.
- Ensuring all financial records are compliant with internal policies and donor requirements.
- Providing financial oversight for consortium members participating in the WPS Helpdesk delivery.
- Liaising with counterparts at the UK’s Integrated Security Fund, the Helpdesk’s primary donor.
- Supporting audits, both internal and external, and ensuring accurate financial documentation is maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage project budgets, financial forecasts, and expenditure tracking.
- Ensure financial reports for the Helpdesk are accurate, timely, and aligned with Saferworld and donor standards.
- Maintain up-to-date financial records across Saferworld’s financial systems, including allocations for consortium partners.
- Prepare documentation for financial audits and support audit processes as required.
- Communicate financial updates and guidance to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with project and operations staff to ensure compliance and best practice in financial management.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual with:
- Professional experience in finance coordination, particularly in the non-profit or development sectors.
- Knowledge of donor compliance, particularly with UK government-funded projects.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to manage complex budgets and financial information.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- The ability to work flexibly and effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Experience with financial software systems and a solid understanding of financial procedures.
