Call for Applications: 2025 Write to Publish Workshop Series for Early-Career Researchers in Gender-Based Violence
The Gender Violence Research and Collaboration Network is excited to announce the launch of Write to Publish, an intensive six-part scientific writing workshop series aimed at supporting early-career researchers working in the field of gender-based violence. This initiative is designed to empower emerging scholars with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully prepare and submit peer-reviewed journal articles in 2025.
Workshop Overview
Led by Dr. Astha Ramaiya, Assistant Scientist at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Write to Publish offers an intimate and focused learning environment. The program will accommodate only 15 participants, ensuring personalized attention and fostering an interactive community of scholars.
Over six sessions, participants will receive comprehensive guidance on the entire publication process—from selecting the right journal to navigating peer review and publication logistics. The workshop content includes:
- Choosing the Right Journal: Understanding journal scope, impact factors, and target audiences to maximize the chances of publication success.
- Drafting a Complete Manuscript: Step-by-step support for writing each section of a scientific paper, including the abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion.
- Navigating Publication Costs and Requirements: Practical advice on handling fees, open access options, and compliance with funding and institutional mandates.
- Peer Review and Feedback: Strategies to respond effectively to reviewers’ comments and improve manuscript quality through iterative feedback.
Who Should Apply?
Write to Publish is specifically designed for early-career researchers with a demonstrated interest or current work related to gender-based violence. Ideal candidates include those who:
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree or
- Are currently pursuing or have completed a master’s degree within the past five years or
- Are in the first year of a PhD program or
- Are actively working on or planning to write a paper focusing on gender-based violence topics and
- Are able to commit to attending all six workshop sessions
This selective approach is intended to cultivate a dedicated group of scholars ready to engage deeply with the material and benefit from tailored mentorship throughout the series.

About the Workshop Lead: Dr. Astha Ramaiya
Dr. Astha Ramaiya brings extensive expertise in sexual and reproductive health, adolescent health, and violence research in low- and middle-income countries. She is an Assistant Scientist at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a key member of the Gender Equity Unit.
Originally from Tanzania, Dr. Ramaiya has authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals such as The Lancet, PLoS Medicine, and Social Science & Medicine. Her mentorship in this workshop will offer participants invaluable insights into navigating academic publishing in the context of gender-based violence research.
