Role Overview

As Head of Global Communications, you will lead the strategic implementation of our 2030 Communications Strategy to position Light for the World as a global leader on disability rights and eye health. You will oversee an international communications team, craft compelling stories and campaigns, guide brand evolution, and provide expert counsel to senior leadership. This role combines high-level strategic leadership with hands-on execution and crisis communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the global rollout of the 2030 Communications Strategy across regions
  • Elevate our organizational brand and visibility internationally
  • Develop impactful, ethical communication products for advocacy, fundraising, and awareness
  • Manage, mentor, and inspire the Global Communications & Brand teams
  • Collaborate with national teams to align messaging and strategy
  • Represent communications at senior management and board levels
  • Lead crisis communication and risk mitigation efforts
  • Promote inclusivity and amplify voices of experts with lived experience

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years in strategic communications or public affairs, including 3+ years managing teams and budgets
  • Proven success in enhancing brand visibility and credibility, ideally in international NGOs or advocacy settings
  • Strong leadership and partnership skills in multicultural environments
  • Experience working with or supporting staff with disabilities is a strong advantage
  • Excellent writing, editorial, and presentation skills; media engagement experience a plus
  • Hands-on crisis communication expertise
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); German or French skills are a plus
