UNICEF Internship Opportunity: UN Partnerships Team, New York Headquarters or Remote (6 Months)

UNICEF is offering a six-month internship opportunity with its UN Partnerships Team, part of the Public Partnerships Division (PPD), located at the New York Headquarters or available remotely. This internship provides a unique platform for graduate students or recent graduates to gain meaningful experience at the intersection of international development, intergovernmental collaboration, and advocacy for children’s rights.

About UNICEF and the Public Partnerships Division

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, defend their rights, and help them fulfill their potential. Its Public Partnerships Division is responsible for cultivating relationships with public sector partners including UN agencies to secure resources and advocate for policies and programs that benefit the world’s most disadvantaged children.

The UN Partnerships Team plays a central role in shaping UNICEF’s engagement within the United Nations Development System. It supports political and strategic partnerships, advocates for children’s rights within multilateral fora, and strengthens the organization’s involvement in UN reform processes.

Internship Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Public Partnership Manager, the intern will contribute to several strategic and operational areas. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting analysis of United Nations Development System (UNDS) surveys directed at UNICEF Country Representatives.
  • Preparing strategic summaries of discussions at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
  • Monitoring developments related to the UN 2.0 reform agenda and preparing relevant updates.
  • Attending Executive Board sessions and preparing accurate readouts of key segments.
  • Supporting strategic engagement in interagency mechanisms such as the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), Chief Executives Board (CEB), High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM), and High-Level Committee on Programmes (HLCP).
  • Drafting briefing notes and documents to support UNICEF Senior Management participation in key meetings.
  • Organizing consultations and meetings with UN partners and producing readouts and follow-up documentation.
  • Supporting knowledge management by updating internal systems, organizing documentation, and maintaining intranet pages.
  • Coordinating with colleagues across UNICEF and other UN entities to manage partnerships and communications.
  • Drafting social media content to highlight UNICEF’s work in UN partnerships and reform efforts.
  • Assisting in the preparation of materials and logistics for interagency meetings involving UNICEF leadership.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a recent graduate or currently enrolled in a graduate-level program in International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate fluency in English. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Show a strong interest in international development, public policy, and the UN system.

Additional Information

  • The internship is full-time (40 hours/week) and may be conducted in-person, remotely, or as a hybrid arrangement.
  • Interns are responsible for securing health insurance for the duration of the internship.
  • For those selected to work at the New York office, a valid G-4 visa is required prior to entering the United States. UNICEF will provide guidance and necessary documentation but will not sponsor visas.
  • Selected candidates must provide proof of enrollment or graduation and complete any required background checks.
