Position Overview

CER seeks a skilled and motivated Communications Coordinator to provide vital support to the Communications and Media department. Reporting to the Head of Communications, the successful candidate will play a key role in implementing communication strategies, managing multiple projects, and coordinating internal and external communications activities. This position requires a dynamic professional who excels at distilling complex information into engaging digital storytelling, is highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment managing diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team and Administrative Support: Assist the Head of Communications with coordinating day-to-day operations, including scheduling meetings, tracking deliverables, managing calendars, travel arrangements, procurement, invoice payments, and maintaining records and databases. Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Stakeholder and Media Engagement: Support the implementation of CER’s communication strategy by coordinating public events, media roundtables, and partner activities. Manage media enquiries, disseminate press releases, track media coverage, maintain media lists, and assist in preparing public relations materials. Facilitate media interviews with CER spokespeople.
  • Reporting and Monitoring: Assist in producing periodic reports, including monthly, quarterly, annual, and risk management reports, aligned with organisational outcomes.
  • Internal Communications: Contribute to strengthening CER’s internal communications culture by supporting content creation for newsletters, updates, and staff training on communication skills.
  • Transformation Support: Actively participate in CER’s diversity, inclusion, and transformation initiatives, supporting efforts to engage Black and women-owned suppliers and fostering an inclusive organisational culture.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • A degree in Communications, Journalism, or equivalent qualification.
  • 3 to 5 years’ practical experience as a communications coordinator or in a similar role.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; fluency in a Nguni language is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive and agile, with excellent networking and client service skills.
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Cloud applications, MS Teams, SharePoint, Adobe Suite, Canva, and other digital tools.
  • Experience developing content for various social media platforms.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.

Salary and Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is between R435,543 and R486,783 (total cost to company), commensurate with experience and qualifications.
