Position Overview
The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) invites applications for a part-time Teaching Assistant (TA) to support the Principles of Global Health Equity course, offered remotely to students enrolled in the Master of Science in Global Health Delivery (MGHD) program. This TA role entails approximately 10 hours of work weekly from August 2025 through January 2026.
The TA will play a critical role in facilitating student learning by grading assignments, managing course materials on the online platform, and assisting instructors in developing teaching resources that clarify key concepts in global health equity. This role offers an excellent opportunity to engage deeply with the academic community committed to social justice and equitable health outcomes worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Director of the Institute of Global Health and working closely with the course instructors and coordinator, the TA will:
- Grading and Feedback: Assess essays, reports, quizzes, and exams. Provide detailed, constructive feedback linking student submissions to equity frameworks and global health principles to encourage critical thinking and application of knowledge.
- Course Management: Maintain and update the Canvas learning platform, ensuring that readings, lecture recordings, discussion prompts, and supplementary materials are accessible, current, and well-organized for student use.
- Teaching Materials Development: Collaborate with faculty to draft, edit, and curate diverse educational materials, including case studies, multimedia assets, and slide decks, that highlight real-world applications of global health equity concepts.
- Student Support: Respond professionally and promptly to student inquiries and administrative requests, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Upholding Values: Model and enforce UGHE’s Code of Conduct and Honor Code, promoting academic integrity, intellectual curiosity, social justice, and a respectful learning community.
Required Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications and experience:
- A master’s degree in a relevant field such as Global Health Delivery (MGHD), Public Health, or related disciplines with a focus on global health equity, social justice, or health disparities.
- Graduate coursework or equivalent experience covering topics such as the global burden of disease, social determinants of health, human rights in health, and implementation science.
- Prior experience serving as a TA, tutor, or academic mentor in courses emphasizing equity-oriented analysis, team-based learning, or problem-solving pedagogies.
- Demonstrated excellence in academic writing and editing, with a capacity to guide students in developing coherent arguments supported by evidence.
- Familiarity with online learning management systems, preferably Canvas, and comfort working in virtual educational settings.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across multiple countries and time zones.
- A clear, demonstrated commitment to social justice and advancing equitable health outcomes on a global scale.
- Reliability and flexibility, including availability to dedicate up to ten hours weekly with scheduling accommodating different time zones.
