About GAIN

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002. We work with governments, civil society, and businesses to improve nutrition outcomes by building sustainable food systems. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, GAIN operates in several countries with high levels of malnutrition, including Nigeria, where this role is based.

GAIN aims to ensure everyone has access to nutritious, safe, and affordable food. With one in three people globally unable to consume enough nutritious food, our work focuses on addressing this urgent challenge.

About the Role

GAIN is seeking a Project Manager to lead and manage the Large Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) portfolio in Nigeria. The portfolio includes strengthening fortification governance, supporting innovations in food systems, engaging stakeholders, and building technical and operational capacity.

The Project Manager will oversee cross-functional teams and collaborate with key regulatory and industry stakeholders such as NAFDAC, SON, FCCPC, the Federal Ministry of Health, and food producers. The role involves high-level project leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight to ensure successful delivery in line with GAIN’s Project Management Guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership in designing and delivering LSFF projects in Nigeria.
  • Oversee the next phase of implementation and scale-up of a digital traceability system involving food producers, premix suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Establish and manage an Innovations Fund for LSFF, encouraging new approaches in partnership with key regulators.
  • Build the capacity of fortified food producers, laboratories, premix blenders, and government institutions to monitor compliance and quality standards.
  • Lead advocacy and stakeholder engagement initiatives involving the private sector, government, and civil society to support scaling of new fortification programs and improve existing ones.
  • Monitor risks, develop contingency plans, and escalate critical issues as needed.
  • Manage a high-performing project team across disciplines to ensure timely, quality project implementation.

About You

The ideal candidate will bring significant leadership experience in the field of food fortification and public health nutrition, along with a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and private sector engagement.

Essential Requirements:

  • Demonstrated success in managing multi-sectoral projects, especially involving government and private sector collaboration in the nutrition or food systems sector.
  • Proven experience in strengthening food fortification governance and implementing innovations and capacity-building programs.
  • Strong understanding of Nigeria’s food production, regulation, and fortification landscape.
  • Extensive experience working with senior-level stakeholders in government, regulatory agencies, and industry.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to develop and oversee systems for monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
