Job Description
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a program dedicated to non-violent conflict transformation and peacebuilding in conflict-affected regions. In Kenya, CPS focuses on addressing violence rooted in social inequalities. It partners with both civil society and one governmental organization to strengthen conflict transformation through alternative dispute resolution, dialogue structures, and psychosocial services. Since 2014, CPS has also implemented the special initiative “Preventing Displacements – Reintegrating IDPs,” which promotes reconciliation and cooperation between internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, host communities, and government entities.
As a CPS Advisor, you will collaborate with at least one partner organization to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate peace education strategies. Your technical and strategic input will support capacity building, organizational development, and project sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and enhance the capacity of local experts and partner staff in peace education, including Do-no-Harm and Early Response methodologies.
- Participate in and support partner-led activities, exchange meetings, and workshops.
- Develop, update, and refine conflict transformation materials in collaboration with partners.
- Facilitate networking to promote cross-sector collaboration, especially in areas such as Mental Health and Psychosocial Support.
- Support the design and budgeting of technical project proposals with partner organizations.
- Contribute to report development and support partners in documenting results and success stories.
- Collaborate with the Program Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) Advisor and partners to evaluate joint activities.
- Assist with administrative tasks and logistics related to program implementation as required.
- Engage in conflict analysis and trend monitoring to help inform strategic planning.
Candidate Profile
- University degree in Social Sciences, Peace Education, Conflict and Peace Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of relevant work experience, especially in grassroots or civil society contexts.
- Proven experience in adult education, Do-no-Harm, and early conflict response mechanisms.
- Strong cultural sensitivity, adaptability, and a high degree of personal integrity.
- Effective communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Kiswahili is an asset.
Location and Security
Kenya offers a diverse environment, but the role requires heightened awareness due to the security context. GIZ has established comprehensive risk management systems, and all staff must follow security protocols. Movement may be restricted in certain areas. Family members are welcome to accompany you, with no restrictions from GIZ. Country-specific safety and travel advisories are provided by the German Federal Foreign Office.
Requirements and Application Notes
- Applicants must hold either German or EU citizenship.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience is required.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the country is essential.
- All applications must be submitted via the GIZ E-recruiting system.
