“Empowering Communities: 14 New Opportunities to Lead Youth, Gender, and Social Justice Programmes”

The Soul City Institute for Social Justice is expanding its dynamic youth and gender advocacy programmes and seeks passionate, experienced individuals for several key roles in Gauteng and the Northern Cape. These fixed-term positions focus on youth empowerment, gender equality, and community development through education, mentorship, and mobilisation.

1. Rise Club Facilitators (x10) – Ekurhuleni East

Contract Type: Fixed Term (until August 2027)
Reports to: Project Supervisor
Closing Date: Tuesday, 03 June 2025 at 16:30

Purpose of the Role
Facilitators will support the growth and success of Rise Clubs by engaging directly with youth in schools and community spaces. The role involves mentoring, running structured programmes, and creating safe, inclusive environments where young people—particularly girls—can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver interactive youth programmes and health education sessions
  • Offer mentorship, support, and guidance to participants
  • Facilitate access to essential resources, including mental health support and bursaries
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare programme reports
  • Engage with youth, schools, families, and community stakeholders
  • Uphold safeguarding and anti-discrimination standards
  • Assist with recruitment, planning of events, and club logistics

Minimum Requirements

  • Post-matric qualification (diploma or equivalent)
  • Experience working with youth in community or school settings
  • Strong communication, empathy, reliability, and teamwork skills

2. Training Facilitator

Location: Johannesburg, with travel required
Closing Date: Tuesday, 03 June 2025 at 16:30

Purpose of the Role
To support the Master Trainer in designing and delivering high-quality training sessions aligned with programme goals. The facilitator will provide technical support, evaluate training impact, and contribute to community capacity-building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate programme trainings and compile reports
  • Deliver partner and community-based training sessions
  • Assist with planning, logistics, and training evaluation
  • Maintain facilitator and stakeholder databases
  • Support partners to ensure fidelity to programme design and effective data use
  • Conduct quality assurance, prepare annual and close-out reports
  • Contribute to budgeting, financial tracking, and compliance

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in education, training, or a relevant field
  • At least 3 years of training and project management experience
  • Strong facilitation and group management skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office, with excellent reporting and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

3. Project Supervisors (x2) – Ekurhuleni East

Contract Type: Fixed Term
Closing Date: Tuesday, 03 June 2025 at 16:30

Purpose of the Role
To oversee the daily operations of Rise Clubs, ensuring effective planning, implementation, and support to Club Facilitators. This leadership role supports a structured, safe, and inclusive environment for youth engagement and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage club operations, including scheduling, sessions, and events
  • Supervise and mentor facilitators, assist with training and development
  • Lead engagement with parents, schools, and community stakeholders
  • Monitor and evaluate programme activities and impact
  • Support data management, reporting, and safeguarding protocols
  • Maintain high standards for youth inclusion, mentorship, and support

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (post-matric qualification advantageous)
  • Experience with youth development, especially girls and young women
  • Minimum 2 years in community development or advocacy roles
  • Commitment to gender equality and social justice
  • Ability to work under pressure, with strong initiative and teamwork skills

4. Project Coordinator – SIOC (x1) – Northern Cape (Tsantsabane)

Location: John Taolo Gaetsewe District, Kuruman (residency required)
Contract Type: Fixed Term (until February 2026)
Reports to: Programmes Implementation Officer
Closing Date: Wednesday, 22 May 2025 at 16:30

Purpose of the Role
To support the implementation of GBVF response interventions in SIOC-CDT beneficiary communities. The coordinator will facilitate training, mobilise clubs, coordinate stakeholders, and manage fieldwork in collaboration with local CBOs and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate training, meetings, and community engagement sessions
  • Mobilise young women and support the formation of Rise Clubs
  • Conduct community mapping, needs assessments, and information gathering
  • Lead logistics, training facilitation, and event coordination
  • Monitor project progress, track data, and contribute to reports
  • Support provincial stakeholder engagement and partnerships
  • Handle procurement, budgeting, and financial reporting
  • Comply with HR and organisational policies

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in communication, education, social science, or public health
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the health or development sector
  • Knowledge of child protection laws, programme monitoring, and community engagement
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and local languages
  • Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle
