About the Role

The Young Women’s Movement Scotland is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Research and Policy Lead to play a crucial role in shaping the organisation’s participatory research agenda. The successful candidate will lead research projects that place young women’s voices at the centre, ensuring that their lived experiences inform policy development and drive systemic change across Scotland.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Research and Policy Lead will oversee the design, implementation, and dissemination of research initiatives, collaborating closely with young women and a range of stakeholders. This position is vital to embedding evidence-based insights into advocacy efforts and supporting the Movement’s broader mission of gender equality and youth empowerment.

Location and Working Arrangement

This is a hybrid role requiring regular travel across Scotland to engage with communities and stakeholders. The organisation’s co-working spaces are located in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Due to the nature of the role and service delivery needs, the position requires in-person presence on location.

Working Hours and Contract Details

• Hours: Full-time, 28 hours per week (4 days)
• Contract Type: Permanent
• Salary: Starting at £32,000 per annum, with progression opportunities up to £36,000

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage participatory research projects that centre the voices and experiences of young women across Scotland.
• Develop and implement research methodologies that engage young women meaningfully in shaping data collection and analysis.
• Analyse findings to generate evidence-based policy recommendations that address issues affecting young women’s rights and leadership opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and young women’s networks to ensure research is relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
• Translate research insights into accessible reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials to support the Movement’s campaigns and initiatives.
• Organise workshops, consultations, and forums that facilitate dialogue between young women, policymakers, and service providers.
• Support organisational strategy by integrating research outcomes into wider policy and advocacy frameworks.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Strong experience in designing and leading participatory research projects, particularly those involving young people or marginalised communities.
• A sound understanding of policy processes and the ability to develop clear, actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills, with the capacity to present complex research in accessible ways to diverse audiences.
• Commitment to the values of the Young Women’s Movement, including gender equality, youth leadership, and social justice.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel across Scotland to engage directly with communities.
