PAID & Fully-funded Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship 2026 (comes with a monthly salary, stipend & paid travel expenses)
The Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship offers an extraordinary opportunity for early-career journalists to deepen their investigative reporting skills through a unique nine-month fellowship in partnership with Durham University and Reuters.
This fellowship is designed to nurture exceptional talent by combining hands-on newsroom experience with academic research support, enabling fellows to undertake rigorous, fact-based investigative projects.
Fellowship Experience
Selected fellows will be embedded within a Reuters newsroom based in one of four global cities: London, New York, Sydney, or Toronto. They will benefit from mentorship by leading Reuters editors and have access to Durham University’s Institute of Advanced Studies for academic guidance and resources. Throughout the fellowship, candidates will develop advanced journalistic techniques while working on a high-impact investigative story.
At the fellowship’s conclusion, the fellow will present their findings and insights in a public seminar at Durham University’s Institute of Advanced Studies, contributing to the academic and professional discourse on journalism. Notably, the inaugural fellow, Waylon Cunningham, contributed to a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative team in 2024.
Compensation and Benefits
- Monthly salary: approximately £4,444 (pro-rated annual equivalent of £53,333)
- Additional monthly living stipend: £1,250
- One-time travel and related expenses allowance: £1,800
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Applicants should have between two and five years of professional journalism experience. Candidates from related investigative fields—such as human rights advocacy, socio-political research, documentary filmmaking, or other authoritative investigative roles—may also be considered on a case-by-case basis
The fellowship is a global opportunity open to applicants worldwide. Durham University and Reuters encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented groups in journalism.
Placement location will be decided by the Fellowship Committee, with the successful applicant responsible for meeting any immigration requirements.
