Leveraging innovative technology, efficient logistics, and sustainable sourcing, F4E delivers affordable, high-quality school meals that enhance learning outcomes.
Since 2012, F4E has served over 100 million meals and aims to scale operations to reach 1 million public primary school students daily by 2027. The organization is rapidly growing, with a strong mission to build an efficient, sustainable, and impactful school meal system across Kenya.
Role Overview
The Senior Associate – Internal Communications is a key driver of organizational clarity, cohesion, and culture at F4E. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role is responsible for managing day-to-day internal communication channels including email, Slack, and other platforms. The position requires close collaboration with the People Team to foster employee engagement and ensure alignment between teams, leadership, and strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Internal Communications Planning & Execution
- Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy that supports F4E’s mission, culture, and operational goals.
- Maintain and manage an internal content calendar to deliver timely and relevant messaging.
- Produce and disseminate internal updates, memos, newsletters, leadership announcements, and org-wide communications.
- Partner with the People Team on onboarding materials, cultural initiatives, and change management communications.
Communication Channel Management & Engagement
- Serve as the internal communications expert for Slack: organize channels, manage content, and optimize platform use to enhance clarity and engagement.
- Introduce and implement best practices such as pinned messages, announcements channels, emoji norms, and message formatting.
- Analyze engagement data, solicit feedback, and innovate communication methods, including integration of new tools and feedback loops.
Content Development & Messaging Support
- Adapt external communications (press releases, blogs, impact stories) into internal formats that resonate with staff.
- Assist the Communications Manager with leadership messaging, including speeches, Q&A documents, FAQs, and team briefings.
- Develop internal content series such as “Week in Review,” “Staff Spotlight,” “Voice from the Field,” and other thematic communications to keep staff informed and inspired.
Crisis and Issues Communications
- Collaborate on rapid response internal communications during crises to ensure staff are informed, calm, and aligned.
- Maintain a clear communications escalation protocol and provide ongoing updates during evolving situations.
Media Monitoring & Internal Insights
- Track media coverage, partner updates, and key stories, producing concise internal digests to keep teams informed.
- Archive media mentions, speeches, and storytelling assets relevant for internal communications.
Culture, Connection & Engagement Initiatives
- Support internal campaigns that reinforce F4E’s values and mission.
- Help coordinate town halls, Q&A sessions, staff feedback forums, and internal events in collaboration with the People Team.
- Collect and analyze employee feedback to continuously improve the tone, tools, and effectiveness of internal communications.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- At least 5 years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or a related communications role with a strong internal focus.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to distill complex information into clear, engaging content tailored for diverse audiences.
- Proven expertise in Slack, including advanced features, channel organization, automations, and formatting best practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with content creation and communication tools such as Google Docs, Canva, and Mailchimp.
- A collaborative, proactive mindset and high emotional intelligence, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
