About the Role
The Conservation Intern will support the Resilient Watersheds (RW) Program, working closely with the program’s team and manager to advance community engagement, conservation project implementation, communication strategies, and value chain analysis. This is a six-month internship offering practical experience in conservation programming and communication, including opportunities to support strategic outreach through social media and content development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, coordination, and documentation of stakeholder meetings, workshops, and trainings.
- Support data quality control and management using platforms such as Kobo Collect; assist in communicating with farmers via SMS platforms.
- Participate in water quality and quantity monitoring and assessments.
- Identify and report on priority value chains for the Eldoret-Iten and River Yala Water Funds.
- Support project marketing and outreach through social media and communication channels.
- Draft strategic communication materials, including newsletters and content for public dissemination.
- Support field operations and logistics, working closely with the project team.
- Prepare and submit monthly progress reports to the Resilient Watersheds Manager.
- Participate in development activities related to farm planning and water conservation structures.
- Assist in integrating new technologies and practices into project activities.
- Complete TNC’s online Water Fund feasibility course and obtain certification.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Agribusiness, Communication, Forestry, Community Development, Information Technology, International Relations, or a related field.
- Must have graduated within the past two years and not be currently enrolled in school.
- Basic training or experience in communication tools, social media management, value chain analysis, and Google Earth or other mapping tools is advantageous.
- Fluency in Swahili is required.
- Familiarity with community-based conservation approaches and local governance structures.
Desired Qualifications
- Residency in or near Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, or Nandi Counties is preferred.
- Experience in GIS, mapping, or data visualization tools is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with local communities, government officials, and diverse stakeholders.
- Willingness to work in rural or field settings for extended periods.

- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
