Role Summary
The Communications Associate will support UNESCO New Delhi’s Division for Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) in enhancing the organization’s visibility and outreach across South Asia. Reporting directly to the Communications and Publications Officer and under the authority of the Director, the incumbent will assist in developing and implementing external communications strategies, including social and digital media, web content, public relations, branding, and publications.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Management
- Assist in preparing public information materials such as brochures, press kits, articles, press releases, and annual reports.
- Manage and update content on the UNESCO New Delhi website, ensuring information is clear, relevant, and up-to-date.
- Produce advocacy and communication materials (e.g., images, videos, social media posts) in accordance with UNESCO standards and guidelines.
- Generate and edit sector news content in text and multimedia formats for dissemination on various platforms.
- Provide communication support for seminars, lectures, conferences, and public events on major issues and events concerning UNESCO.
Media Relations & Outreach
- Maintain contacts with media representatives to promote the organization’s activities.
- Ensure responses to direct or indirect requests for information about UNESCO’s work promote better understanding of its objectives and activities.
- Design and implement digital media campaigns aligned with UNESCO’s priorities.
- Promote and track UNESCO New Delhi’s brand and the organization’s work through social media networks, including emerging digital platforms.
- Develop partnerships to enhance the digital footprint of the office.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Develop and nurture close, collaborative working relationships with colleagues (researchers, media, experts, etc.) internally and externally to promote and embed the work of the office.
- For UN joint programme activities, produce success stories, case studies, and features to share with stakeholders and audiences.
- Regularly communicate UN joint programme progress and impacts online.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with UN communication officers and focal points to disseminate information about UNESCO’s activities.
- Maintain a photo database that contains images expressive of the issues, actions, and results UNESCO is working on.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field/equivalent.
- Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant professional experience. Previous experience in international development bodies would be considered an asset.
- Professional Experience:
- Solid understanding of a broad range of development issues.
- Experience in conceptualizing and managing the production of printed materials, including detailed reports.
- Experience with managing websites.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with media.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing communication and/or media outreach plans in support of overall corporate goals, including preparing presentations.
- Demonstrated experience in developing content that clearly communicates development ideas and experiences for media, web, print production, and audio-visual productions.
- Experience in overseeing translation work.
- Competency with office software packages, including PowerPoint, Excel, basic design software.
- Languages: Excellent drafting skills in English. Knowledge of another UN official language would be considered an asset.

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits, which may include, if applicable:
- 30 days annual leave
