European Central Bank (ECB): Digital Communications Traineeship – €1,170/month, Remote & Frankfurt, Apply by 10 June 2025

The European Central Bank (ECB) is offering a traineeship in digital communications within its Directorate General Communications. This full-time position is open to EU nationals and offers a monthly grant of €1,170, with additional accommodation allowances for eligible candidates. The role is based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, with a closing date for applications on 10 June 2025.

Team Overview

The ECB’s Directorate General Communications comprises approximately 250 staff members responsible for communicating the ECB’s tasks, mission, and organization to the public and media. The Newsroom Division, part of this directorate, focuses on digital content creation, including social media management, podcast production, and web content development. The Digital Content team, consisting of six members, plays a pivotal role in creating engaging content for various digital platforms.

Role and Responsibilities

As a trainee in the Digital Content team, your tasks will include:

  • Preparing and editing content for the ECB’s social media channels, such as Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Contributing to the development of digital campaigns targeting diverse audiences, including the general public, youth, and experts.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive messaging across digital platforms.
  • Assisting in the production of The ECB Podcast, including drafting scripts and identifying potential interviewees.
  • Supporting the team in maintaining and updating content on the ECB’s websites.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, economics, international relations, business administration, political science, journalism, computer sciences, design, marketing management, public relations, data science, English language studies, or related fields.
  • Experience in creating digital content, including social media posts and multimedia materials.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Advanced (C1) proficiency in English and intermediate (B1) proficiency in at least one other official EU language.

Desired skills:

  • Familiarity with digital communication strategies and trends.
  • Experience in multimedia content creation, including video and audio production.
  • Knowledge of content management systems and analytics tools.

Grant and Benefits

The ECB offers a monthly trainee grant of €1,170. For candidates who have completed at least two years of PhD studies and apply for a traineeship requiring such qualifications, the grant increases to €2,120 per month. Additionally, if the distance from your place of recruitment to the ECB exceeds 50 km and you decide to temporarily relocate, accommodation costs will be covered. You can either stay in one of the ECB’s residences or receive a lump sum for temporary accommodation.

Application Process

The recruitment process includes a remote written exercise in the pre-selection phase and, if shortlisted, an online interview. The selection process typically takes around three months from the closing date. Candidates will be informed of the outcome via email. If not selected, candidates may be placed on a reserve list for 12 months from the closing date for applications.
