Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • A Doctoral degree in Sociology of Education or a closely related field.
  • A recognized teaching qualification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in higher education.
  • Proven teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Sociology of Education.
  • A track record of accredited research publications in recognised academic journals, appropriate to the Senior Lecturer level.
  • Demonstrated postgraduate supervision experience, including the successful supervision of Master’s and/or Doctoral candidates.

Candidates who possess the following will be at an advantage:

  • Additional qualifications or formal training in higher education teaching and learning.
  • Successful track record of external research funding.
  • Evidence of mentorship of early-career academics.
  • Recognition within a chosen area of research (e.g., NRF rating).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative research or teaching beyond their own institution.
  • Proven involvement in community engagement that integrates with teaching or research activities.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic and institutional life of the university through:

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Sociology of Education.
  • Participating in the design, development, and implementation of curricula that reflect innovation and relevance.
  • Conducting high-quality research and meeting the publication requirements aligned with the Senior Lecturer level.
  • Securing external research grants to support scholarly activities and institutional advancement.
  • Supervising postgraduate students at Master’s and Doctoral levels.
  • Establishing and sustaining institutional, regional, or national academic collaborations.
  • Contributing to the mentorship of emerging scholars and academic staff development.
  • Engaging in community initiatives that complement academic work.
  • Participating in departmental, faculty, and university-level administrative duties.
