About IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Scholarships
The IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is offering a limited number of full and partial scholarships under the Water and Development Partnership Programme. These scholarships aim to strengthen the capacity of water professionals and build robust networks in the regions of the Sahel, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and the Horn of Africa.
Scholarship Overview
This initiative is designed for students who wish to pursue the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft. The scholarships support individuals committed to tackling water-related challenges in their home regions and who intend to apply the knowledge gained to support local development projects.
Coverage and Benefits
Full scholarships cover:
- Full tuition fees
- Health insurance
- International travel expenses
- A monthly living allowance of €1,220 to cover accommodation and personal costs for the full study period
Partial scholarships are also available. Applicants who can secure co-funding from other sources (e.g., personal funds, employers, external grants) are encouraged to contact Ineke Melis at [email protected] to discuss the possibility of applying for remaining funds.
Eligible Countries
Candidates must be nationals of one of the following countries:
- Middle East: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen
- Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda
- Sahel: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Nigeria
Key Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be admitted to the MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development
- Live or work in one of the eligible countries
- Agree to conduct their MSc research in their home country or region, connected to a local project supported by the programme
- Participate actively in seminars organized by the programme’s learning networks
- Commit to returning to their country of origin or another priority country after graduation
Recommendation Letter Requirements
One of the two required recommendation letters must be from the applicant’s current employer. This letter must:
- Be on official letterhead, dated, and signed
- Explain how the applicant’s new skills will benefit the organization
- Confirm the applicant will return to the organization after completing the MSc
- Mention involvement (if any) in projects funded by the Water and Development Partnership Programme
Only applications that include such a letter will be considered for this specific scholarship.
Selection Criteria
- Strong motivation, assessed through five questions in the online application
- A solid academic background
- Relevant professional experience
- Preference given to female candidates
- Priority to those with partial funding, if multiple applicants meet all criteria equally
Application Process
You do not need to fill out a separate scholarship application form. If you are from one of the eligible countries and meet the criteria, you will automatically be considered for the scholarship after receiving academic admission.
Due to limited funding, it is recommended that you also apply for other scholarships that cover part or all of the MSc programme costs. Applicants eligible for the Rabbani Scholarship are advised to apply for that opportunity as well.
Important: English proficiency is a requirement for final admission. If an English test is needed, make sure to complete it well in advance. If test results are not submitted by 1 June 2025, your scholarship application will not be considered. For furthher information and to apply visit here.
Note: Applicants from Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda are exempt from the English test requirement.
