About the PhD Studentship
KEMRI-Wellcome Trust is committed to building research capacity in Kenya, East Africa, and Africa as a whole. The PhD program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to undergo training in a high-quality scientific research environment. As part of this program, students will be supervised by a team of senior researchers, with a student advisory committee to guide their progress.
PhD Structure
- Pre-registration Phase: Successful candidates will begin with a 3-month pre-registration period, where their readiness for PhD studies will be assessed.
- First-Year Upgrading Assessment: At the end of the first year, students will undergo an upgrading assessment to determine their eligibility to continue with the PhD program or if they will be downgraded to an MPhil.
- International Affiliation: KEMRI-Wellcome Trust is an Affiliated Research Centre (ARC) of the Open University, UK, allowing students to benefit from internationally recognized academic supervision.
Eligibility Criteria
- A Master’s degree in public health, health policy, or a related field.
- At least a B+ in KCSE and an upper second-class degree (or equivalent) in your undergraduate studies.
- For non-classified undergraduate degrees, a GPA above 3.3 (average score above 60%) is required.
- Candidates should not be already registered for a PhD at another institution.
Selection Process
- Competitive Process: Applications will be shortlisted online, followed by interviews.
