Purpose of the Role
Tenure Facility is seeking a Development Officer, Writer to contribute to the Development Unit by producing impactful, donor-focused written materials. This consultant will play a key role in articulating Tenure Facility’s impact and mission to institutional donors, high-net-worth individuals, and philanthropic partners.
The Development Officer will be responsible for writing and refining reports, proposals, donor communications, and fundraising materials, ensuring they are consistent, clear, and aligned with Tenure Facility’s strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
The Development Officer, Writer will be tasked with the following core responsibilities:
- Proposal Development: Write and edit compelling proposals for foundations, bilateral and multilateral funders, and other institutional donors, ensuring clarity and persuasiveness.
- Report Writing: Assist in the creation of grant reports, impact summaries, and donor progress updates, transforming programmatic information into compelling narratives.
- Donor Materials: Develop engaging materials such as case statements, investment briefs, donor newsletters, and talking points tailored to fundraising efforts.
- Editing and Refinement: Ensure all development materials are donor-centered, engaging, and aligned with Tenure Facility’s brand and strategic goals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Development, Finance, Operations, and Programmes units, as well as Tenure Facility’s partners, to gather insights, data, and stories for fundraising materials.
Requirements

- Qualifications & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in grant writing, donor communications, or development-focused writing, preferably in the non-profit, human rights, or environmental sectors.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into accessible, compelling narratives for donor audiences.
- Strong understanding of donor expectations, especially for foundations, government agencies, and philanthropic institutions.
- Preference for experience with international organizations, particularly those focused on Indigenous rights, land tenure, or climate change.
- Highly organized and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable working remotely and independently, while collaborating effectively with a global team.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
