The ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS) is an essential platform for young people across Asia and Europe, providing a unique space for leadership development and community engagement. The 6th edition, ASEFYLS6, will focus on “Leadership in Society 5.0” and will feature both virtual and in-person collaborative activities, bringing together a diverse group of youth leaders eager to contribute to positive societal change.
What is ASEFYLS6?
ASEFYLS6 is a dynamic youth leadership program that follows a 360-degree approach to leadership development. The program emphasizes three key components of leadership: self-leadership, team leadership, and societal leadership. The aim is to provide young individuals with the tools, knowledge, and platform to take an active role in shaping the future of society. The theme for ASEFYLS6, “Leadership in Society 5.0,” explores the challenges and opportunities in a world that blends cyberspace and physical space to address social issues.
The Theme: Leadership in Society 5.0
Society 5.0 is a human-centered concept that seeks to create a balance between economic progress and the resolution of social challenges. This vision integrates technological advances, particularly in cyberspace, with the physical world to develop inclusive, ethical, and sustainable solutions. ASEFYLS6 aims to explore what kind of leadership is necessary for Society 5.0 and how young people can develop the skills and values to lead in this context.
Goals and Opportunities for Youth
ASEFYLS6 is designed to provide youth with a range of opportunities, including:
- Training from Experts: Participants will receive leadership training focused on Society 5.0 from leading global institutions and experts.
- Collaboration in Diverse Groups: Young leaders will engage with peers from across Asia and Europe, applying their knowledge, enthusiasm, and skills to propose solutions to real-life societal challenges.
- Contributing to Decision-Making: ASEFYLS6 provides a platform for young people to bring their voices into the multilateral policy arena. Participants will also contribute to the ASEF Youth Report, providing valuable insights and recommendations for future leaders.
- Access to a Global Youth Network: By participating, youth will build lasting connections with peers from across Asia and Europe, fostering cross-regional collaboration and exchange that can shape their personal and professional futures.
Program Structure
The ASEFYLS6 program will unfold over three phases from July to October 2025, with each phase designed to enhance participants’ learning, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge Building Phase (29 July – 26 August 2025, Virtual)
This phase will be held virtually and will consist of e-learning modules and interactive sessions. During this five-week period, participants will explore the theory behind Leadership and Society 5.0. They will engage in weekly online sessions, participate in peer-to-peer dialogues, and have the chance to meet high-level leaders from across the globe. - Leadership in Action Phase (27 August – 28 September 2025, Virtual)
In this phase, participants will transition from learning to action, working on collaborative projects to address real-world challenges related to Society 5.0. The virtual platform will facilitate ongoing communication and teamwork as participants apply their knowledge in practical, impactful ways. - Youth Summit (29 September – 5 October 2025, Osaka, Japan)
The Youth Summit will be the culminating event of ASEFYLS6, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their projects and leadership initiatives in person. The summit will be held in Osaka, Japan, where youth leaders will interact with experts, policymakers, and influencers to discuss the future of leadership and society. Prior to the summit, there will be a Navigators Training from 13-17 July 2025 in Warsaw, Poland, to help participants prepare for the upcoming phases.
