UN Women is seeking to appoint two experienced and dynamic Country Representatives (P5) for their offices in Niger and Ecuador. These roles are critical for advancing UN Women’s mission and will contribute significantly to gender equality and women’s empowerment in both countries.
Role Overview
The Country Representative (P5) will serve as the senior most UN Women official in their respective countries, leading the implementation of UN Women’s programs and initiatives. The key responsibility of the Country Representative is to ensure the strategic direction, coordination, and integration of UN Women’s mandate within national development agendas and priorities.
This senior leadership role will include high-level advocacy, coordination with national and international stakeholders, managing and mentoring staff, and ensuring the effective use of resources. The Country Representative will also oversee program implementation and manage relationships with government, civil society, and other UN agencies, working to promote the rights and welfare of women and girls.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Program Management:
- Lead and coordinate the formulation of strategies and policies in line with the country’s development goals, ensuring alignment with UN Women’s global priorities.
- Oversee the implementation of UN Women’s programs, ensuring high-quality results and impact.
- Advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment at the national and international levels, influencing policy and decision-making.
- Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and other relevant partners.
- Collaborate with national stakeholders to advance gender equality and support the implementation of international commitments like the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women).
- Resource Mobilization and Management:
- Manage and oversee the country office’s financial resources, ensuring effective and efficient use of funds.
- Lead resource mobilization efforts to secure funding for UN Women’s programs.
- Team Leadership and Staff Development:
- Lead and manage a team of professionals, ensuring their development, performance, and well-being.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes inclusion, diversity, and results-oriented performance.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program progress and outcomes.
- Provide reports to the UN Women Regional Office and Headquarters on program achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
Requirements
- Advanced Degree: A Master’s degree or equivalent in international development, gender studies, social sciences, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international development, with a focus on gender equality, women’s empowerment, or human rights.
- Leadership: Proven experience in leading and managing teams, overseeing the implementation of complex programs, and engaging with senior stakeholders.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in French or Spanish is a distinct advantage, depending on the country.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and use data for strategic decision-making.
- Knowledge of UN Systems: In-depth knowledge of the UN system and its processes, particularly in relation to gender equality, human rights, and sustainable development.
