Vacant PhD Fellowships at the Department of Law, University of Southern Denmark

The University of Southern Denmark is offering PhD fellowships at the Department of Law, starting from January 2026. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to engage primarily in research and prepare a PhD thesis over a three-year period. You will join a dynamic and active academic environment at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, contributing to the advancement of legal research

As a PhD student at the Department of Law, you will be involved in various academic activities such as participating in PhD courses, attending international conferences, and contributing to teaching activities within the law faculty. You are expected to contribute to both the internal and external visibility of the department and support the working environment with your commitment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in law and develop a PhD thesis within the framework of the department’s ongoing research.
  • Participate in the department’s academic environment and contribute to teaching in Danish and/or English.
  • Actively engage with faculty, other PhD students, and external partners in advancing the research agenda.
  • Complete the PhD program within the 3-year period, including participation in relevant courses and teaching duties.

Requirements:

  • Academic qualifications at the Master’s level (e.g., a Master’s degree in law or a related field).
  • Although practical experience in relevant areas is an advantage, it is not required.
  • Strong research skills and an interest in pursuing a PhD at the highest international level.
  • Ability to contribute to the department’s teaching activities.
  • Fluency in Danish and/or English for teaching and research purposes.

The application must include the following documents:

  1. Motivated application explaining your interest in the position and suitability.
  2. Detailed Curriculum Vitae (specifying educational and work history, including dates).
  3. Master’s degree certificate (with all examination results).
  4. Application form (available via the department’s website).
  5. Project description (max. 5 pages of 2,400 characters each, including spaces, notes, appendices, and bibliography).
  6. Abstract of the project (no more than 250 words).
  7. Publications (if applicable, no more than two; if including your master’s thesis, attach only the problem formulation and conclusion, not the entire thesis).
  8. Information on teaching experience or other forms of academic communication.

Important Instructions:

  • Only two files should be uploaded: the first file containing your motivated application, and the second file containing the CV and other materials. Each file should be in PDF format and the combined size must not exceed 10 MB.
  • All documents in languages other than Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish should be translated into English.

Terms of Employment:

  • The PhD student will be employed according to the agreements outlined by the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
  • The PhD position follows the regulations for PhD students as outlined in the circular from December 2021.

  • After the application deadline, a selection process will be conducted based on an evaluation of your qualifications and how your proposed project aligns with the department’s research agenda.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interviews.
