About the Role
Oxfam International’s Asia Regional Platform is seeking a Communications Coordinator, Rivers-Rights-Resilience to support South Asian and Global Water Governance communications. This pivotal role involves developing and executing communication strategies that align with Oxfam’s program priorities, especially around inclusive governance of rivers and the empowerment of riparian communities. The successful candidate will lead advocacy, media relations, and policy communications efforts to amplify regional program goals. This role also provides strategic communication support to country teams and partners, ensuring the delivery of high-quality communications products and impactful regional initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Communication Strategy Development: Create and implement communication strategies that promote Oxfam’s objectives in water governance, with a focus on inclusive river management and community rights.
- Media & Advocacy: Lead media outreach, advocacy efforts, and campaign communication, ensuring alignment with both Oxfam’s global objectives and regional priorities in South Asia.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and partners across the region, facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange.
- Capacity Building: Provide communications training and strategic advice to partners and country teams, building their skills and supporting their advocacy work.
- Quality Communications Products: Develop compelling, high-quality written materials and resources for regional and international audiences, from policy briefs to impact reports.
- Monitoring & Learning: Contribute to monitoring and learning initiatives, ensuring communications work supports Oxfam’s accountability and program effectiveness.
Who We’re Looking For
We seek a candidate with a passion for environmental issues, strong communication skills, and substantial experience in the media or public relations field, particularly in Asia. Ideal candidates will meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A degree or postgraduate qualification in Media and Communications, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, Business Studies, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, media, or public relations at the national, regional, or international level, particularly with environmental focus.
- Strategic Communications Expertise: Proven ability to develop and execute successful communication strategies, ideally related to environmental or social justice issues.
- Multilingual Skills: Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Assamese, Bangla, Dzongkha, Hindi, or Nepali.
- Project Management: Demonstrated experience managing projects and collaborating with globally networked teams.
- Capacity Building: Experience training and supporting others in media or communications, helping them grow their skills.
- Time Management: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage workloads independently and meet deadlines.
