MSF Access works to improve accessibility, availability, affordability, appropriateness, and quality of healthcare products for the populations MSF serves. This is crucial to addressing barriers to health, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations. The MSF Access team leads efforts to ensure better access to medical products through advocacy, research, and policy development.
Position Overview
The Publications Officer will enhance the editorial and writing capabilities of the MSF Access communications team, supporting the creation of impactful publications for both internal and external audiences. This role will involve overseeing the entire publication process, from concept to final product, ensuring high-quality communication materials that support MSF Access’ advocacy efforts.
Reporting Structure
The Publications Officer will report to the Head of Advocacy. The Advocacy department is responsible for shaping and executing MSF Access’ advocacy and communication strategy. The officer will collaborate closely with other members of the Access communications team and work across various MSF teams and regional hubs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Publication Process: Lead the writing, editing, review, and production of a wide range of MSF Access publications, including technical reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, issue briefs, letters, statements, and talking points.
- Advisory Role: Provide guidance to the MSF Access Team on the best publication formats and dissemination strategies to achieve advocacy objectives, ensuring that publications meet the needs of target audiences.
- Collaborative Planning: Work with publication content leads to develop production plans, including timelines, roles, and budgets. Engage with management and stakeholders to improve the Research and Analysis Publication (RAP) planning process.
- Strategic Integration: Collaborate with the communications team to ensure that publications align with broader media and digital strategies, including integration with annual planning processes.
- Quality Control: Maintain and enhance editorial standards and guidelines, ensuring consistent high-quality outputs. Oversee production, design, and distribution of publications through external service providers, ensuring timely delivery of professional materials.
- Targeted Dissemination: Develop and execute targeted dissemination strategies to maximize the impact and visibility of publications, in alignment with MSF Access’ advocacy goals.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with MSF’s Strategic Communications Advisors and the global communications network to include the perspectives of MSF’s medical practitioners and the populations they serve in MSF Access publications.
Requirements
Essential:
- At least three years of professional experience in writing, editing, and publishing across various types of materials, from technical reports to media-friendly publications and digital content.
- Demonstrated experience in global health, healthcare access, or the pharmaceutical industry.
- Excellence in written and spoken English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
- Ability to work with subject matter experts to transform complex technical content into clear, structured medical and advocacy publications.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines while ensuring accuracy.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to work as part of a diverse, global team, with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with external parties.
- Experience in graphic design, layout, or photo editing is a plus.
- Prior MSF experience is highly valued.
