Now Accepting Applications: Dr. Michael Simpson Scholarship Fund 2025
The Secure World Foundation (SWF) is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Dr. Michael Simpson Scholarship Fund.
This prestigious scholarship aims to support young professionals who are passionate about space exploration and sustainability, offering them the opportunity to attend the International Astronautical Congress (IAC).
The 76th IAC will take place from September 29 to October 3, 2025, in Sydney, Australia. The scholarship provides financial assistance to space professionals under the age of 35 who have had an abstract accepted for presentation at the event.
Since its inception, the Simpson Scholarship Fund has awarded over 60 scholarships to participants from 28 countries, helping young professionals in the space industry gain invaluable exposure and experience.
Scholarship Details:
- Scholarship Amount: Up to $1,500, awarded in $500 increments.
- Usage: Scholarships can be used to offset travel-related expenses, including airfare, lodging, and registration fees for the IAC 2025.
- Winners Announced: Mid-July (contacted) and August (public announcement).
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the 2025 Dr. Michael Simpson Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Under the age of 35 at the time of application.
- Accepted abstract for presentation at IAC 2025.
- Not previously received a Simpson Scholarship.
- Submit an application by Monday, June 16, 2025, at 8:00 AM EDT.
Focus Areas for Submissions:
The proposed paper must be related to one or more of the following SWF focus areas:
- Space Sustainability
- Space Law and Policy
- Human and Environmental Security
Application Requirements:
Applicants are required to submit a short essay (maximum of 500 words) addressing the following:
- The importance of their research and its potential impact.
- What they hope to gain from participating in the International Astronautical Congress.
The scholarship aims to foster the growth of the next generation of space leaders by providing opportunities for them to engage with the global space community, share their research, and contribute to discussions on important space-related topics.
