University of Copenhagen INTERSECT Visiting Research Fellowship – Fall 2025: Call for Applications

The University of Copenhagen’s INTERSECT program invites applications for its prestigious Visiting Research Fellowship for Fall 2025. The program especially encourages younger scholars at the PhD and Postdoctoral levels to apply.

INTERSECT serves as a dynamic academic community dedicated to interdisciplinary collaboration, primarily focusing on the intersection of the arts, humanities, social sciences, and design. It brings together a diverse range of research on cities, landscapes, and communities, particularly examining questions of inequality and justice. At INTERSECT, the primary focus is on understanding the intersections—both those that shape our world and those that influence how research and work are conducted.

Cities are inherently complex, shaped by a myriad of economic, social, cultural, technological, and ecological differences. These differences can either amplify or mitigate inequalities and injustices, often invisible to those who are not directly affected. In many cases, these disparities are difficult to grasp or measure, yet they are crucial in understanding the fabric of urban life. INTERSECT’s research aims to shed light on these often elusive and challenging issues.

In order to address these inequalities, there is a pressing need to not only identify and articulate these differences but also to explore their broader impacts. INTERSECT tackles this challenge by developing innovative methods to study complex, hard-to-quantify problems. This involves merging a variety of research techniques, ranging from artistic, practice-based methodologies to advanced data-driven methods such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Key Aspects of the Fellowship

The INTERSECT Visiting Research Fellowship provides selected scholars with several unique opportunities:

  • Travel Costs: Fellows will receive funding of up to 10,000 DKK for travel expenses to and from the University of Copenhagen.
  • Workstation Access: Fellows will be granted access to a workstation within the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, which will serve as the base for their research activities.
  • Active Participation: Fellows are expected to engage actively in relevant academic and community activities within the department and the broader INTERSECT program.
  • CIRCLE Seminar: During their stay, fellows are required to organize and host a CIRCLE seminar. This seminar serves as an opportunity to present their research, engage with other scholars, and contribute to the ongoing discussions within the academic community.
