About the Position

The IDB is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Communications Consultant to support four teams within the Infrastructure and Energy Sector (INE/INE). The consultant will play a critical role in coordinating strategic communications and knowledge dissemination efforts across the Energy Division, Public-Private Partnership Unit, Transport Division, and Water and Sanitation Division.

The position will involve working closely with the Division Chiefs and collaborating with other communication teams within the Bank.

Key Responsibilities

The Communications Consultant will:

  • Communications Strategy & Execution: Support the design and execution of communications strategies, ensuring alignment with IDB’s institutional goals. Develop talking points, speeches, and other materials for the respective Division/Unit Chiefs.
  • Crisis Management: Advise and assist in crisis communication, preparing briefs, talking points, and press announcements. Act as a liaison for communication-related activities both internally and externally.
  • Content Creation: Draft and edit various communication materials such as newsletters, blog posts, op-eds, social media content, case studies, and speeches. Produce content that showcases the impact and scope of INE’s work.
  • Press Relations: Write press releases in collaboration with team specialists to promote new initiatives and projects. Oversee the creation of audiovisual products (e.g., videos, multimedia presentations) and manage relationships with external vendors.
  • Event Coordination: Conceptualize and coordinate logistics for events, both virtual, hybrid, and in-person, including interpretation services, using platforms like Zoom and Teams.
  • Publications Management: Support the publication process, including coordinating with external providers for editing, translation, and design, as well as overseeing the approval process for final publication.
  • Managerial Support: Assist in the creation and dissemination of materials related to the overall infrastructure sector, including support for the Office of the Manager and senior management with communication tasks.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, international relations, or public policy.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in an international setting. Experience in coordinating strategic communications, knowledge dissemination, content creation, and public relations is required. Previous experience in the infrastructure and energy sector is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, accessible communication assets.
    • Proven experience in managing content production for multiple platforms (e.g., social media, websites).
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
    • Expertise in writing and editing communication materials like briefs, press releases, and blogs.
    • Experience with event production, graphic design, and vendor management is a plus.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English (both spoken and written) is required. Knowledge of French and Portuguese is a plus.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You must be a citizen of one of the 48-member countries of the IDB.
  • Consanguinity: You cannot have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity) working at the IDB or any of its related entities (IDB Invest, IDB Lab).

Contract Details

  • Contract Type: International Consultant, Full-Time
  • Contract Duration: 12 months (with the possibility of extension up to 36 months based on performance)
  • Work Location: On-site, Washington, DC
