Position Summary
CLUA is seeking a Senior Manager, Special Projects to lead cross-functional initiatives that advance the Alliance’s mission and enhance operational efficiency. Reporting to the Special Assistant to the Executive Director, this role will provide high-level project management and organizational coordination to support CLUA’s strategic objectives.
This is a key position for a seasoned project manager who brings a strong ability to lead complex initiatives across diverse stakeholders, both internal and external. The role requires an individual who is highly organized, proactive, collaborative, and adaptable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The Senior Manager will work closely with CLUA staff, member foundations, and partner organizations to ensure timely and effective delivery of key projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning, and execution of major cross-functional and organization-wide projects and initiatives.
- Manage the coordination of retreats, including the preparation of agendas, engagement with external facilitators, and post-event follow-up.
- Support strategic organizational planning by tracking progress on key objectives, facilitating internal alignment, and ensuring follow-through on decisions and action items.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to identify inefficiencies and propose scalable solutions to enhance internal workflows and decision-making processes.
- Serve as a point of coordination for Alliance-wide activities, ensuring clear and timely communication across teams and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement structured project management tools and processes to increase organizational effectiveness and accountability.
- Draft internal communications, prepare executive briefings, and support leadership in articulating key messages to staff and partners.
Location and Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate must be available for in-person meetings as required and willing to work across multiple time zones. Given CLUA’s international partnerships, participation in early morning or late evening meetings is expected, particularly to coordinate with colleagues in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. The role also involves occasional travel both within the United States and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Ideal candidates will bring a mix of the following experiences and competencies:
- A minimum of five years of experience in project or program management, ideally within the environmental, philanthropic, nonprofit, or human rights sectors.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required; advanced degrees are a plus.
- Demonstrated success managing complex projects involving diverse stakeholders, tight deadlines, and cross-cultural coordination.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a high degree of initiative and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar); experience with project management tools such as Asana or similar platforms is highly desirable.
- Experience working in international or multicultural environments, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in global philanthropic collaboration.
- Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, or Bahasa Indonesia, is a plus.
