Position Overview
Standard Bank is seeking an experienced and dynamic Project Manager to join our Personal and Private Banking team based in Johannesburg. This role is designed for a highly capable professional who thrives on managing complex, high-impact strategic initiatives across the business. The successful candidate will take full ownership of major projects, ensuring their successful delivery from inception through to implementation, within agreed parameters of scope, time, quality, and budget.
As a Project Manager, you will apply world-class project management methodologies, drive cross-functional collaboration, and deliver scalable, sustainable business solutions aligned with the strategic objectives of the bank. Your leadership will be pivotal in ensuring projects meet stakeholder expectations while enhancing operational efficiency and client value.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and closing of multiple high-value and strategic projects, ensuring successful delivery against defined timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, resource requirements, and key success metrics in alignment with business goals.
- Coordinate and guide cross-functional project teams, ensuring that all members understand their roles, responsibilities, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed project plans, manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and proactively mitigate project risks and issues.
- Ensure that projects are compliant with all governance standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Regularly engage with key stakeholders across business units, IT, operations, finance, and other departments to provide updates, manage expectations, and secure alignment on project objectives.
- Track project progress and generate accurate reports, highlighting achievements, risks, dependencies, and action plans.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Minimum Qualification:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Project Management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualification:
- Postgraduate qualification in Project Management, Strategic Management, or Business Administration is advantageous.
- Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum) would be a strong asset.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in project management, with a proven track record in managing large-scale, complex, and strategic business initiatives from start to finish.
- Significant experience leading cross-functional teams and managing high-value projects across multiple business domains, particularly in the financial services sector.
- Solid understanding of business operations, strategy alignment, and how to leverage project delivery to achieve tangible business benefits.
- Experience in working within structured project management environments and frameworks, including both traditional (Waterfall) and Agile methodologies.

- Project Maintenance: Ability to manage ongoing project operations and ensure consistent progress tracking.
