Introduction to MiCT
Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering expert media services in complex and challenging environments. With a focus on fostering transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue, MiCT supports resilient societies by collaborating with partners to deliver essential media training, content development, and capacity-building programs. MiCT works across 15 countries in three continents, providing media research and monitoring, as well as financial sustainability support for media projects.
About the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices
The MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices is designed to support media professionals from countries facing conflict or crisis. This program is specifically focused on journalists and media creators from Afghanistan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the MENA region, Sudan, and Myanmar. Fellows are selected based on their commitment to journalistic integrity and professionalism in highly challenging environments.
The Fellowship offers a comprehensive package of support, including financial assistance, health support, expert safety guidance, legal and psycho-social aid, online and in-person training, production counseling, and access to a global network of media professionals.
MiCT is seeking an organization to manage and support a community of journalists in the Middle East and Egypt under this program, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and protection.
Role Overview
MiCT is looking for qualified organizations to provide project management and community support services for journalists and media makers (JMMs) from the Middle East and Egypt under the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices 2025/2026.
The selected organization will play a key role in supporting the fellows by providing a range of services to enhance their safety, well-being, and professional development. The contract duration extends through June 2026.
Key Responsibilities
The organization selected to manage this initiative will be expected to take on the following responsibilities:
- Team Management:
- Hire and oversee a part-time Project Manager and a Community/Admin Manager to manage all fellowship-related activities, including regular events, consultations, and meetings.
- Fellow Selection:
- Coordinate with MiCT and other partners to establish a clear and transparent mechanism for receiving and reviewing applications from prospective fellows.
- Hire and manage external experts for background checks, candidate shortlisting, and conducting interviews, ensuring that selected fellows meet the program’s priorities.
- Organize the coordination of interviews and assessments to evaluate the fellows’ needs and suitability for the program.
- Contractual Coordination:
- Manage the contractual process and ensure safe funds transfer mechanisms are established with fellows across the region.
- Oversee the onboarding and offboarding process for 55-60 fellows, ensuring proper integration into the program.
- Support to Fellows:
- Provide tailored support to fellows based on their individual needs, including but not limited to:
- Safety measures for fellows.
- Assistance with in-country or regional relocations, accommodations, and co-working spaces as required.
- Psychological and legal support, including identifying service providers and coordinating necessary services.
- Provide training, workshops, and consultancies based on the fellows’ needs.
- Facilitate the provision of necessary work materials or equipment for fellows to sustain their journalistic activities.
- Provide tailored support to fellows based on their individual needs, including but not limited to:
- Community Building and Engagement:
- Manage and facilitate both in-person and virtual community-building activities for fellows, leveraging the Global Fellowship Platform.
- Organize and conduct a 3-day rest and recreation retreat for at least 10 journalists in a safe country within the region, if feasible.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Regularly check in with MiCT’s Project Manager and Officer to ensure proper coordination and the smooth operation of the fellowship.
- Submit detailed financial and activity reports to MiCT in accordance with agreed timelines.
Applicant Requirements
The organization applying for this role should demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Proven Project Management Experience: Experience managing projects, particularly in the media sector, with an understanding of the challenges faced by journalists in crisis or conflict regions.
- Strong Network and Connections: Established relationships with regional media organizations, and a robust network of service providers, particularly in psychological and legal support.
- Community Management Expertise: Ability to effectively manage a community of journalists, offering necessary support and ensuring their needs are met.
- Regional Knowledge: An understanding of the challenges faced by journalists in the Middle East and Egypt, including safety, legal, and psycho-social issues.
