MUMI operates a significant open-pit mine focused on the extraction of copper and cobalt ores. The site also includes a modern hydrometallurgical plant and a sulfuric acid manufacturing facility. The company operates in line with international best practices and under the governance of Glencore’s corporate policies.
Position Summary
MUMI is seeking a qualified and experienced Superintendent – Hydrogeology to join its Mine Technical Services Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all hydrogeological functions related to open-pit operations. Reporting directly to the Manager – Mine Technical Services, this leadership role is vital in managing groundwater, surface water, and stormwater systems to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.
Key Objectives of the Role
- Develop and implement effective water management strategies to support mining operations.
- Lead and supervise hydrogeology teams, ensuring alignment with Glencore and MUMI operational standards.
- Ensure compliance with MUMI’s safety and environmental management requirements.
- Provide expert support in dewatering system planning and slope depressurization for the mine.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or a closely related field is mandatory.
Experience Requirements
- At least five (5) years of proven experience in surface and stormwater management within a mining or heavy industry setting.
- A minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or superintendent role, ideally within a mining environment.
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong command of hydrogeological databases and data validation processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with Data Shed, QA/QC systems.
- Familiarity with industry-standard mining and geological software such as Surpac, Deswik, or similar.
- Ability to lead multicultural teams and communicate effectively in a multilingual environment.
- Fluency in French is required; English proficiency is a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical skills for problem-solving and operational planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute short-, medium-, and long-term dewatering strategies and slope depressurization systems.
- Oversee and manage stormwater drainage systems, ensuring efficient adaptation to mine development.
- Compile, verify, and upload drill and grade control data as part of operational planning.
- Provide ongoing technical input for mine planning teams regarding hydrological impacts and system improvements.
- Lead and supervise the hydrogeology team with a focus on safety, performance, and accountability.
- Ensure all hydrogeological work complies with Glencore’s internal policies and MUMI’s safety and environmental standards.
- Support environmental audits and maintain adherence to environmental and sustainability regulations.
