About the Youth Coalition

Our organization is a bold, feminist, youth-led global entity committed to advancing youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We achieve this through a combination of advocacy, capacity building, and movement building.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that young people—particularly those from marginalized backgrounds in the Global South—should have a strong voice in regional and global platforms, including UN processes and human rights mechanisms.

At the heart of our work lies a commitment to intersectional feminism, anti-racism, decoloniality, collective care, and youth leadership. We are reshaping how power is understood and enacted within both our organization and the broader movements we support. Our approach centers on creating new models of power and accountability, prioritizing inclusivity, and ensuring the voices of youth and marginalized communities are amplified in the SRHR space.

Position Overview

We are seeking a bold, principled, and collaborative Executive Director (ED) to lead our organization through a phase of strategic transformation. The ideal candidate will be visionary, grounded in feminist values, and ready to play a critical role in shaping our future. The ED will be expected to:

  • Lead the Organization’s Transformation: Oversee and guide the organization through a period of strategic change and growth, ensuring that our mission and values continue to resonate in an evolving global context.
  • Strengthen Governance and Political Vision: Work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders to strengthen organizational governance and further our political vision. The ED will play a pivotal role in refining our strategies and ensuring that our work aligns with our core values and goals.
  • Ensure Sustainability: Lead efforts to secure the financial and operational sustainability of the organization. This will involve resource mobilization, donor relations, and building long-term partnerships, all while maintaining the integrity of our feminist, youth-led mission.
  • Support a Thriving Team: The ED will manage and support a team of passionate young feminist advocates, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive work environment that empowers staff to perform at their best. The ED will work to ensure that our team is equipped with the tools and resources needed to fulfill their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Strategic Direction:
    • Lead the overall direction and strategic planning of the organization.
    • Work with the Board and senior staff to develop and execute a long-term vision, ensuring alignment with our organizational values and the needs of our constituencies.
    • Foster a strong, consistent public voice for the organization and represent our values on international platforms, including advocacy on SRHR.
  2. Organizational Development and Governance:
    • Strengthen internal systems of governance and create new models of power and accountability to ensure transparency and inclusivity in decision-making processes.
    • Oversee staff management, professional development, and organizational culture.
    • Lead the development of organizational policies and ensure compliance with international best practices and organizational standards.
  3. Sustainability and Resource Mobilization:
    • Take a leading role in fundraising efforts to ensure financial sustainability and resource mobilization.
    • Build and nurture relationships with donors, partners, and other stakeholders to secure long-term support for the organization’s initiatives.
    • Ensure the organization’s financial health through the development of budgets, financial monitoring, and effective resource allocation.
  4. Youth Leadership and Movement Building:
    • Foster youth leadership across all aspects of the organization’s work, encouraging active participation and decision-making by young people, especially in the Global South.
    • Empower and mentor young feminist advocates to become leaders in the SRHR movement.
    • Promote a collective care approach, ensuring that the well-being of team members is prioritized alongside organizational success.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Youth-Led Leadership: A commitment to youth leadership, with a proven track record in leading or contributing to youth-led initiatives, particularly in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, or feminist advocacy.
  • Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in leadership roles in feminist organizations, NGOs, or other organizations working on social justice and development issues, particularly SRHR.
  • Strategic Vision: Strong strategic thinking and the ability to manage complex projects. Experience in strategic planning, political advocacy, and capacity building is essential.
  • Cultural Competency: A deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by youth in the Global South. The ED should demonstrate cultural sensitivity, anti-racism, and decolonial perspectives in both their leadership and organizational strategies.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience with resource mobilization, fundraising, and financial management within non-profit organizations.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and Spanish (both written and spoken) is required, given the global scope of our work.
