UNDP is looking for a dedicated Technical Specialist to support impactful climate change mitigation efforts across Africa.

Job Information:

Key Responsibilities:
- Policy and Advocacy: Support the development of strategic policies and engage in regional advocacy on climate change mitigation and sustainable energy.
- Program and Portfolio Management: Guide the identification and development of projects, oversee project execution, and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation.
- Technical Support: Assist in the development of new projects and provide ongoing support for climate change mitigation efforts in Africa, particularly those linked to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Global Environment Facility (GEF).
- Partnerships and Resource Mobilization: Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders such as governments, donors, private sectors, and NGOs to mobilize resources for climate change projects.
- Learning and Knowledge Management: Contribute to the development of best practices and provide training materials to enhance the capacity of teams across regions.
Requirements:
- Educational Background: Master’s degree in Energy, Climate Change, Engineering, Development Studies, or related fields. A Bachelor’s degree with additional experience is also considered.
- Experience:
- 7 years of experience (with a Master’s degree) or 9 years (with a Bachelor’s degree).
- Strong experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy transition, and climate finance.
- At least 5 years in climate change mitigation and sustainable energy, particularly in developing countries.
- Familiarity with project design/implementation, particularly for climate change mitigation projects.
Additional Skills:
- Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and familiarity with energy access projects are crucial.
- Experience with GEF, GCF, and blended finance solutions is a plus.
- Fluency in English and French, with strong communication and presentation skills.
Travel:
- The role will require multiple international missions per year to African countries.
